Art, I worked in the medical field for 34 yrs and and some of that was in the neo-natal ICU.  I just want to reassure you and your family that the technology they have today is so superior to anything they even had 5 yrs ago.  The vent will breath for him so his lungs can mature without being over taxed.  I know it is scarry seeing him all hooked up to machines and tubes but he is comfortable and in no time his lungs will catch up and start functioning normally.  Be patient and remember that time is your friend and he will get past this setback.  I'm sending prayers to the little guy and your family.

My most heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you.  I know there is strength in prayer, I've prayed as best I know how but sometimes I think I am dialing the wrong number. They had to put a tube in Dillons chest cavity today to keep a lung from collapsing, a hole in one of his lungs was causing the air to escape into the cavity around the lungs and when he would exhale a lung would collapse. I really think the c-section was scheduled too early and he wasn't ready for this world yet, another week might have made all the difference. I feel he is in good hands and am optimistic that he will be okay but it is a trying time for all of us.

Thanks to everyone for your support. Wanted to post an update. Dillon has made a lot of improvement, he no longer requires support for breathing and is beginning to nurse a little. Still has a few more days in ICU before he will be ready to go home but he should be in his own crib by the end of the week. The parents are exhausted and ready for this ordeal to be over but are very grateful for the thoughts and prayers. My son told me he felt a strange calm come over him last week, I believe it to be one of the ways the prayers were answered.

Hey Art, I just saw this thread and lifted your precious Grandson Dillon up to the throne of God. I pray that God continues to give your family peace in this journey your on. Dillon is in good hands, he's in Gods hands! I also pray that this journey brings you All closer to God and may he use this to strengthen each of you. Gods sweet love brother!
