Outside of the new twin cooled feature; what are the differences between a 2013 air cooled 110" motor and the new 2014 air cooled 110" motor. Harley claims the 2014 is "the next level of Harley-Davidson V-Twin engine". I realize they changed the cam but that hardly stands up to that claim. Has anyone fully analyzed the new 2014 motor to see if it really has "significant" upgrades? I'm not trying to put the new motor down just trying to look beyond the marketing copy.

Thanks
Scott

Cams stayed the same (255) in the 2014 110 engines. 103 water cooled have the new cams.

I believe the compression ratio is slightly higher as well.

Also the fans are there to blow air over the coolers, not to cool the rider.

Guys Scottty was asking about air cooled engines. The one they are in CVO BREAKOUT AND CVO DELLUX, I would also want to know if it is any difference, or another marketing BS.

But the OP is asking for differences between the two air/oil cooled engines... I have the same question... as I wait for the new RGC CVOs to come back in 2015-16 I keep searching for what improvements they have made from the engine that I currently have.

From 2012 -> 2013 -> 2014  - speaking on air/oil cooled engines only...  trying to decide if it is best to extend my warranty and keep the bike, or replace parts (but not sure on what parts those are) with better quality ones, or trade when the new one comes in to take advantage of improvements (if any...)

No change other than twin cooled. We have had the 14 CVO apart and there is no increase in comp ratio or cam. However you do get a HYD issue.. coolant issue these issues are being worked on however not solved. Burping the system is a PIA even taking it apart to get the air out. Slipper clutch but that is on a 13 as well. I was going to buy one but will wait to see if they get the bugs worked out and may think RG this go round

Read on another forum that they went to a 254-E in '14..  guess not, I'm going to  try one out on my '11.HD paying the bill on warranty.. Hell maybe I'll get to be in a Focus group..

I was discussing the issues with my '12 SG's motor with one of the owners of Quaid HD in Loma Linda.  He admitted that the 110s were not the most durable motors, and there have been "issues".  He then claimed that because of new "metallurgy" techniques, whatever that means, all of the '14 110s will be much more durable.  I'll believe it when I see it.

Besides the new compensator, has anyone else heard that the materials or manufacturing processes of the '14 motors have changed?  Or was that guy just spouting marketing mumbo jumbo?
