Turkey fryers - keeping firefighters busy on T-day for 15 years.

My station responded to this at 6 pm last night

Either way, hope there were no injuries/fatalities to occupants or FF's. Looks like egress was compromised unless there were other means to the apartments/condos. Also looks like you had some exposure damage (car) too?

Heh... I'm impressed :2vrolijk_21:... Usually when the stick goes up or a Chief Officer gets on the scene the building goes down. :D :D

You know how some of them white hats can get, all in a hurry and what not. My motto - "if the pipe is going up the building is probably coming down"
Pipe not needed though.

No injuries, civvies or FF's
Light weight construction town homes - always a challenge. The first picture was on arrival.

This development has had 4-5 Thanksgiving or Christmas Day fires over the years. And most of the pictures look the same.

Definitely know about the "white hat" syndrome... the good ones are sometimes few and far between. :(

Good to hear no injuries... lightweight construction is nothing more than a lumber yard waiting to burn... they are bad enough when they are completed are even worse during construction. :nervous:

That's sad... sounds like they aren't learning from previous years.

I have fried many a turkey with no incident.  That being said, I'm VERY careful.

One of my techs first had fried turkey many years ago at his brothers house in Louisiana.   They would cook 2 or 3 at a time in a big cast iron cauldron - think 50 gallon with 25 gallons of oil.  They would just toss them in and fish them out with a pitchfork (!) when done.  Not the same as the vertical tube fryers most buy today.  He bought one of those fryers when they became available.  His first effort was Christmas at his mothers house.  In his words, "They won't need to waterproof that deck for a few years".
