Quite often excessive rear tire wear is from relying on the rear brake not the front. I ride with some that use rear brake a lot [ mostly] and they get10,000 and I get 18000 on the rear tire. Billy

i had front replaced  at 7K for warranty side wall splitting now have 38.5 K on bike with front still looking good, plenty of tread and no scalloping. First rear made 20k second rear changed at 17.5 before fall florida trip. still had tread but changed early to be sure. didn't know how many miles i would be riding for sure. weather in the teens in michigan so won't have it out till daytona time

I always change tires a bit early. Check my pressure before every ride as I think that helps get more miles out of them. Never had a rear tire blow while riding but have had a front blow going downhill bout 55mph. Worst tank slapper I ever experienced and almost bailed a couple of times but held on and rode it down only to push it back up the hill to get a tow. So that is why I am sort of anal about my tires. Got a notice two weeks later this may happen something to do with the wheel. All I could think was thanks for the heads up.

I have 14,000 on my original rear and it is shot.  Front is worn but not totally shot.  I just bought both to replace now. 

I think that my right hand is more of the problem than my right foot!

WOW, I cant get 6000 out of my rears or 10000 out of my fronts...

What he said.  I can never get more than 8 to 10k out of a rear tire.  I was reading in the manual when to shift, and noticed I was shifting at much higher speeds/rpm's than the book says.  I tried shifting at what the book shows, I think 15,25,35,45,55, etc. but man does that feel like it's too early to shift.  I think the RPM's are right around 1800 to 2k when you shift that way.  I bet the people getting 15k plus out of a rear tire are shifting like this, run a lot of highway, and don't engine brake much.  Maybe I'll change my riding habits and see how much I can get out of this new tire?

I really like the feel and sound of power!  I guess I'll just have to live with crappy fuel mileage and worn out tires.
