Just to be sure with jumper wire.
« on: December 31, 2013, 01:22:03 AM »

Hi there

Hope this makes sense :)

I recently purchased a Custom Dynamics Genesis II Laydown LED tail light. Awesome replacement to the stock OEM red square back. Couple of nights ago I noticed that parking in the dark when I switched the bike to accessory mode I had no running light (tail light) but definitely do with ignition on.

So I checked, and the LED is wired #1, #3, #4. No wire at #2.

The OEM is wired #2, #3, #4. No wire at #1. This is an Australian delivered CVO.

With the plug removed and ignition on I have power at the male pin on #1 but no power when I switch to accessory. Have power with both ignition and accessory on pin #2.

I've tried very carefully to remove the molex connector from the multi lock plug on the LED to move it to #2 but for the life of me cannot get it to move. It seems to have a different style of connector than the OEM. I removed the molex connector from and older OEM square back I had, without any trouble.

So, I'm thinking I can install that to the missing #2 on the LED light and carefully splice and solder it into the wire on #1? Should this work? Won't damage anything?

Cheers

Pin 1 = running light (off in acc position)
pin 2 = running light HDI Models (on in acc position)
pin 3 = brake light
pin 4 = ground

you can switch 1 & 2 without any issue.

Hi there
Thanks for the info. I figured I could switch 1 & 2 but as I said in my OP I can't figure out how to remove the connector in 1. Tried all sorts of little "tools" to dislodge it but failed!. Had no trouble removing the connector in the OEM plug. So am I OK to run a jumper from 2 to 1??

No. That will connect the aux circuit together with the running lamp circuit. Post a picture of your connector that you're having trouble with.

Hi there

Persevered with it and managed to get the connector out and installed it in #2. Works as it should. Thanks again for your advice.

Hi there

Before I re-installed the LED light I compared the two male amp/tyco style #4 wire plugs. The black OEM as fitted std. to the square back tail light on a multitude of HD models and the one that came with the LED. Even though they look the same there is a slight difference in the internal part of the plug that houses the female socket connector.

I had absolutely no trouble removing the connectors on the OEM but had major difficulty with the plug on the LED.
