Moving to Michigan

So it looks like I will move to Michigan.  Office will be in the Auburn Hills area.  Anyone here have any recommendations as far as great neighborhoods go?

Hi Rotarywing,

I grew up in Detroit but haven't been up there in about six years. Auburn Hills has always been nice, same with Bloomfield and Bloomfield Hills. They were always high end areas, don't know if the down economy has affected that. I've never heard much good about Pontiac, it always had a reputation for being kinda rough. I've got quite a few relatives that live in Waterford Township and and the surrounding area. I've always liked that area and I would say it's more blue collar than the others I mentioned. Lots of nice small lakes around, west of Auburn Hills, and all of those places were always pretty nice. My cousin was elected Waterford Township Supervisor a couple years ago and as far as I know he still is. If you want, I can probably get you some info.

My former work life took me to Detroit and the surrounding cities for many, many years.  Safe to say there are a lot of places I would avoid.  But my favorite city to visit and dine in was Birmingham, Michigan.  Delightful downtown area and fantastic restaurants.  A very comfortable city, I always enjoyed my visits...

Not sure where your coming from, but I'm originally from Chicago and I have been living in Michigan for 10 years now.  I love it, great riding and a lot to do all year round.  I live on a lake which if you like water, consider the Lake Orion area, its very close to Auburn Hills, I have a good friend that lives in that area.  Feel free to PM, I am the General Manager of BMW of Rochester Hills, were a short distance from Auburn Hills, but I live about 50 miles west of the area.

Not real familiar with the area for as many times as I've been up there but I have a brother that lives in Farmington Hills and that seems to be a pretty decent area. He hasn't said much about crime or anything. I know the traffic up there sucks though.

Clarkston is a very nice community in close proximity to Auburn Hills. Good schools, small town feel, nice neighborhoods with large lots so the houses aren't on top of one another.

My New Car Manager lives in Rochester Hill and he has for a long time.  You can always stop by and talk with him when your out this way.  Bloomfield Hills is very nice, but very pricey....not a lot of Harleys buzzing around that area, but it depends on who you are and what you like.  I think you would like Rochester Hills or Lake Orion alot.  Another great area a little northwest of Auburn Hills is Grand Blanc.  Good Luck

You know where to find me, I will look forword to meeting you.  I think I may take a run down to Pigeon Forge next Friday for the weekend.  A good friend that lives in Macomb, another nice area, has a place down there and we were going to go down for the weekend and check on things...otherwise I will be around.
