Use of HDI (Harley International) Map
« on: July 22, 2011, 09:16:42 AM »

bought a used 2008 SERK FLHRSE4 in Maryland.  Bike has V&H true duals with stock air filter.  The bike has the SERT and the cable and VCI were in the saddle bag (no software - on order from local dealer).  Appears the dealer who installed the exhaust and the SERT installed an HDI (harley international) map number 200UJ001 , which is listed as the HDI map for an 1800 with exhaust and high flow filter installed.  Wonder why they would have installed the HDI fuel map instead of the north american map?  Don't the HDI bikes make less power?

Usually the only difference is it allows control of the active exhaust option in HDI models.

The Active Exhaust is that contraption on the European bikes that make them quieter in some circumstances?
I guess I can continue to use this map for the install of the Arlen Ness Big Sucker (Stage 1).

Russel
By control do you mean the active exhaust can be tuned or just toggled off and on?

The active exhaust on European Bikes is just a flap inside one exhaust pipe, it can only be toggled on or off, open or closed. In effect giving a 2 INTO 1 EXHAUST.  The difference is the noise level is not really noticable.

Wouldn't we be in tall cotton if the opening could be tuned.

The valve will not live, so it is treated as Off/On. The software will handle it but the valve does not.

I'm confused - the valve is not durable?

from the "pictures" never having seen one in person - i always figured the thing would open at high speeds - run a open muffler on that side and have cutouts......... :bananarock:

You have a cable that runs from the valve back to the control motor. None of that will hold up trying to run the valve back and forth, along with the valve itself. None of it was designed to be operated in that fashion. Yea, I found out the hard way years ago. It was designed as an Off/On system

Here in Australia we piss em' off rightaway !

Mostly they're just "locked" open in the ECM Calibration and not physically removed. You can also lock them open manually AKA a self tapping screw !

Older SERT /current TTS system / Newer Supertuner and others all give the ability to "disable" the active exhaust

In reality it's a "Euro" in town noise thing that we don't need in Australia anyways so go figure ??

I can't see why in the States an HDI cal would have been flashed to a bike ? I put "US" cals into "Aussie" bikes here all the time !
