Ever seen one of these?
« on: February 15, 2014, 06:21:37 PM »

My dad and I own an auto repair/towing company in NH. I was contacted by a customer that is realtor and he was helping an client clean out a house that he sold for her. This was in the garage and had been sitting for 20+ years. Their original plan was to push it onto a trailer and put it in storage. Well the wheels were locked up and they couldn't push it. They called and we hauled!!! They have decided to have us get it up and running driving so it can be shipped to another family member in Virginia. Got it running Thursday now need to rebuild the master cylinder and wheel cylinders to get it to stop. Cool little 3 wheeled rig!! It was made by HM Vehicles and is called a Freeway.

I have!

Used to be made here in Minnesota. (Burnsville). If I recall correctly they offered it in a few different versions, gasoline, electrical, and they at least had plans for a diesel version. One seat only.

They never offered a reverse so you had to think before you parked. Kind off a snowmobile on wheels.

Didn't know about the various power plant options. This one is single cylinder 4-stroke gasoline model.

Been reading the owners manual. There is an oil pump that is activated by a switch on the dash. The pump serves 2 purposes. The oil is pumped through a filter to obviously filter it but it is also pumped to the front of the "car" to a heat exchanger that has a blower on it to heat the cab and defrost the windshield!!! Kind of neat. I was curios on top speed but all I could find was under break in, it states do not exceed 55 mph during the first 1000 miles. I am not sure I would feel safe in this at 55 mph??!!

No I need to let them know where we are at. The running part was no big deal. Back when this thing was parked the fuel we had was good, not this junk we have today. Popped the carb apart and it was clean. Drained the tank and added some 100 low lead we get from out local airport. It pretty much fired right up. It needs a battery still and the brake system took it hard from sitting. We are gonna have to spend a few hundred to get it back so it will stop good. Before anymore running we will need to do oil and filters etc.

Check out www.leosgarage.com tons of info on this vehicle including manual. HM stood for High Milage, each gas powered one was guaranteed to get 100 mpg at 55 mph on the highway :nervous:

Restored they do sell but not for a ton of money. Would be a neat little vehicle to dink around in where there was not a ton of traffic.

That's actually where I printed the manual for this one and gathered a lot of info about it!!! This on cleaned up and running/driving would probably close to the top of the mark. It is in very nice shape just dirty from sitting 20+ years. The fiberglass is in exceptional shape. It has close to 11k miles on the odometer
