I too carry a tire repair kit including compressor.  Thankfully I've not needed it but have saved a couple friends a tow by having it.

As for the AAA motorcycle roadside assistance coverage there are several coverages that I like.  This is from their AAA Motorcycle Coverage Features  Benefits.

'Motorcycle Towing:  Includes four service calls in addition to your Classic, Plus or Premier membership.  When your motorcycle cannot be started or safely driven, it will be transported without charge to a destination of your choice up to 100 miles from the point of breakdown.'

'Motorcycle Trailer Assistance:  Motorcycle trailers are also covered whether your motorcycle is riding on one or pulling one.  The towing benefit, air for tires, extrication/winching and locksmith services are all available for your motorcycle trailers.'

'Motorcycle Travel Interruption:  If the motorcycle you are riding breaks down, is stolen or cannot be driven due to a collision 100 miles or more from your home, reimbursement of up to $1,000 will be provided for eligible expenses for up to 72 hours from the time of the incident.'

This is the one i use. The advantage to these is that you cant bent or break the reamer or plugger. The cheaper or smaller kits dont work that great on these big tires

Ghost__Rider,

You mentioned that you are in the tow business and I have a question for you:

Let's say that you have the HOG towing and your insurance towing package (or some combination of others out there like AAA).  Can you combine the tows?  For example, lets say that your insurance package will tow you 100 miles, can someone then turn around and use the HOG towing?  I realize that the tow driver would need contracts for all the companies involved and the towee would need to place multiple phone calls, but is something like that allowed?

I am just wondering if it makes sense to have multiple options since the cost of the packages are relatively inexpensive compared to a tow.  I know my motorcycle insurance company, Foremost, offers their towing for $10/year.

It could be done, it would take a little extra paper work for the tower but we'd do it if it. I have trucking companies that often have ins with one company on the truck and another on trailer. They usually just split the cost.

I think ESP is all you need. Picked up a nail in a brand new Michelin commander II that had less than 100 miles on it. The funny thing is a local shop installed the tire not a Harley Dealer. I called the ESP folks a local dealer picked up the bike in their trailer towed it in. They ordered the tire and had it shipped next day. They towed the bike back to my home. Total cost $0.00. I was close to home so I'm guessing if you were on the road you just ride away from the dealer and smile!

ESP didn't want to swallow my SE Stage III Kit on the '09 SERG, so they are not an option for me anymore on that bike... They did choke on a couple of rear tires for me though, before I cancelled them. Still have ESP on the '05 SEEG, but I've been using the SERG more for the longer distances

wouldn't the tire and wheel coverage on the esp have covered you for that?  if the nearest hd dealer didn't have the tire, would they cover to tow you to the next one that did?  or would they expect you to wait (picking up the hotel tab for you of course) for the tire to be shipped in?

it would have it i had ESP at the time.  However, it was still within my two year warranty and i had not purchased the ESP with wheel and tire.  Therefore, i was stuck with just HOG.  So, learning opportunity for me.

Now have ESP and Road America.  AAA to add my bike was more than the Road America package as i do not carry the high tier of AAA for the autos, only the basics.

Regrettably, AAA does not offer motorcycle towing/assistance coverage in many areas of the United States (such as New England).

My wife has had 2 flat tires. spoke wheels so can't plug the tire. next bike will have tubeless tires. both times we call for a tow first times after waiting 4 hours  with 2 calls to the hog people the driver called and said it will be 2 more hours. We called a friend with a trailer and went home. next time we called they said they had no contract tow trucks in the area. We live 30 miles NW of Chicago come on they suck. We left the bike with some nice people in there garage. We were only 10 miles from home. I think there service is waste of money.  I carry a repair kit and co2 cartridges around town and on trips a small compressor with a repair kit. New bike for wife in the spring so all should be good. Woodstock HD has picked us up in less than a hour when the battery went dead during normal hours.  Billy

'Was thinking about trying HOG, but after reading here, HOG sounds worthless.

What would y'all recommend? AAA?
I have AAA RV Plus (includes motorcycle).  Last year coming out of Shoshone, ID I striped the inner teeth on the belt drive pulley.  Called AAA and had a tow truck on site in 15 minutes.  Took me to Twin Falls (Snake River Harley) at my request.  No hassle.  Dropped me off, I signed his slip and that was it.  Cost $70 a year for the Plus RV over standard auto coverage.
