Question about adding heated backrest
« on: February 26, 2014, 06:48:19 PM »

I have an 08 seuc3 and added a Harley lumbar support backrest. Bitchin Stitchin is taking the old backrest matching insert and adding it to my new backrest to make it match the bike seat. That being said, here is my question. Bitchin Stitchin said they can add a heating element in it for the passenger. My question is: can this be wired into the rear seat control? The unit he adds is a on off element. I figure that is what is in the seats and temperature is controlled by the voltage. I would like to wire it into the existing circuit with the low off high switch in the seat. Does anyone know if this would work? Changing the fuse might be required. The wiring will hold the additional unit as it is small and only draws 1 1/2 amps. Inquiring minds want to know!
Thanks

I don't see any reason why it would not work as long as the fuse is the correct size to protect the wiring.

She might would rather have a heated jacket..........certainly would be more functional.

:2vrolijk_21:   I think I'd ask her first.  A heated jacket liner might be the ticket.  As for the heated backrest question, see if you can find out what the Harley switch is rated for in terms of amperage versus the draw of both the seat and the backrest on high.  I'm not sure what the switch is rated for, but perhaps someone around here knows.

I know my wife loves hers, and the heated gloves that go with it.

The heated jacket liner will certainly provide more even heat to the whole upper body not just a small area on your back.

You wouldn't happen to have the part # for the lumbar backrest would you? Thanks in advance.

If you go the heated jacket liner route, make sure you get the controller so she can adjust the temperature :)

I'm interested in the part number for the lumbar adjustable backrest as well. Did it mount into your existing tourpak holes?
