Got a new toy
« on: April 07, 2014, 06:36:41 PM »

I bought myself a new JVC ADIXXION GC-XA2 action camera and yesterday was the first day that the weather cooperated enough for us to take an extended ride and try the camera out. I'm still obviously learning how to use the thing. It has more settings for video and photo operations than I could possibly comprehend...One thing that does aggravate me is that just like an Apple product the "owners guide" is very basic so I'm going to have to try each setting to see what they do. Also you have to use a third party editing program(at least it seems that way at this point), which may not be a bad thing if you have a program you are familiar with - I don't so there's another learning curve.

The camera itself takes fabulous video footage! I have it mounted to the left side of the handlebars adjacent to the bikes hand control and was very surprised to discover the lack of any vibration or shakiness in the footage. I did learn that I might as well just disable the sound recording ability because the wind noise it picks up is tremendous so I'm better off adding any sound effects during the editing process. I used "windows live movie maker" to do the editing but if anyone know of something easier and/or better I would be grateful for the suggestion.

This is almost seven minutes of footage but feel free to take a look at all or part of it - and offer any helpful suggestions regarding video editing software and storage solutions - external drive recommendations ect...

Hey Phato1 I just bought the same camera. I like the idea of being able to start and stop the recordeing from my iphone with the app. I keep my phone in a riders claw mount on the bars so this should work fairly well. I think I am just gonna try the helmet mount that it came with for now nut may end up getting a chrome techmount and putting it on the crashbar out in front of the lower fairing. I hope you are still liking yours. Which editing software did you wind up using?

I'm using a RAM mount on the bars and so far it works great. As far as editing I'm still learning to use the window movie maker unless I can find something easier. I must admit to being somewhat software challenged.
I'm also trying to figure out how to use my phone to replay the videos, but the control ability is pretty cool.

I have not been able to replay the videos with my phone either. I will have to check out the windows movie maker for the editing. Thanks

Nice ride... Spent a few years in Westport, '66-'69. No bicycles in those years.
~1:20 in your video...I hate it when the car/truck/van crosses the line into on-comming to give them their three feet...
