Learned the hard way
« on: April 05, 2014, 04:19:32 PM »

I learned to change the battery in my bike the hard way.  If you have an alarm system,  ENSURE YOU HAVE YOUR KEY FOB NEAR THE BIKE AND TURN THE IGNITION SWITCH TO THE ON POSITION.  Failure to do this will cause the alarm to sound off  when changing the battery.  The alarm will not turn off until you get your bike to recognize the FOB and do the above procedure....

It is funny now.  But it wasnt when I disconnected the battery...... >:(

what you're supposed to do is to turn the bike on so the alarm 'disarms'.  then you remove the maxi fuse.  you can then do whatever it is you need to do.  then turn everything off, and reinsert fuse.

you don't really want to change the battery out with the ignition and everything on.

Been there done that, bought the chrome plate for the starter solenoid & the counter guy at the dealer told me that I should disconnect the battery before I changed it so I came home & started to tear things apart. Well, I disconnected the ground with no problems but when I disconnected the positive.......Holy crap, inside my garage with the doors closed it was mind numbingly loud & that's when panic mode sets in trying to figure out what to do, wow, I know how to do it now but when I saw the guy at the dealer I had to thank him for the heads up, ya right but we had a good laugh after the fact. That thing is really loud in a closed in area for sure

When I experienced the alarm and couldnt turn it off, I opened the manual and it clearly stated to turn on the ingnition. In that moment, I wasnt searching for fuses....if you know what I mean.  :o

That happened to me ONCE.  To make matters worse it was in an aluminum storage unit.  Now if I mess with the battery I put on my pistol range ear protection.
