I want to install this stereo in my RG. What do I need ?
« on: April 20, 2014, 08:38:15 AM »

I want to install this dual stereo in my rg fairing.  I want a weather proof mount, bar controls and a clean install.

I want to use this Head unit.

and I am wondering if I can use car or marine audio for speakers?  and what about an amp?  Do I need to use the bike specific solutions out there?

The link below is to the best kit I've used.  Prefer it over the Biketronics package.  Both can get the job done and have used both.  Just personally prefer this one.

Just about.   Iron Cross can program the HK so that AVC works on the old bike too.   Integration is better with the HK and they look better in the hole.  You can't do things like Pandora but there are definitely reasons to consider it.  HK is certainly the easiest swap to do.

I dont care about pandora.  I have sirius that I would like to have an audio input for on the radio....I think there is a way with the HK.  thats all that matters to me....and plug in my zune MP3.

There are sat radio modules for the HK radio.  Iron Cross can a rear auxiliary port with a cable long enough you can route it into one of the fairing mounted glove boxes and drop your MP3 player in there.  That's what I've done with the HK radio in my old Road Glide (the aux cable not the sat radio).

I just had iron cross add blue tooth to my HK radio. Works great.  Now I can just set my droid phone to whatever I want to listen to.   I also added the hd 12v power supply in the right saddle bag.  I can charge it there and leave it in there while riding too.  I have the iPod connector as well.   So now I just about got it all.   Stuart.

That was one of my instances of really bad timing Stuart.  I got the radio for my old Road Glide repaired and upgrade by Iron Cross then two or three months later they started offering the bluetooth job.  Missed it by that (-) much....

Ok Stu, I'd avoided finding out more about their bluetooth upgrade to the HK radios as I didn't want to give myself reason to yank a fully functioning radio back out and send it off again.  But.... ok, spill a bit.

What kind/how much bluetooth functionality is there?  I'm assuming no phone function as there'd be no reason for that.  Other than that, however, does it all bleed through.  I'm use Android also so you're on point for me.  Pandora, MP3 player, etc etc etc....  What has worked and what hasn't (that you thought might have)?

Don,, really works good. Nothing "bleeds" through. Once it is on it stays on. No handle bars controls.  You can't advance a song  or anything like that. The sound quality is great.  I have the lgg2 and it's so easy.  I set the volume on the phone about 3/4 up. Pandora is great. No phone calls yet. I would recommend it.  140.00 is the cost.

Had seen that....  That made it even worse :bigcry: .

Price was so cheap I'd have done it in a heartbeat while my radio was there.  Missed it by that (-) much!  Have a feeling that after such a glowing recommendation the Road Glide's nose will come off for a week or so this fall (or sooner if the forecast shows enough bad weather days in a row for shipping back and forth).  You're a bad man Stuart....  :huepfenlol2:
