Need Help With Compression Check/ What #s ???
« on: May 20, 2014, 11:08:35 PM »

What would be the proper way to check the compression on the '09 SERG (Throttle By Wire)???

I was planning to jump the starter with the key off, to preclude having to disable the ACRs, and having to unplug the Throttle Body(definitely don't want to damage the motor / gears on the Ported SE 58!) and manually open the Butterfly and use a wooden dowel to keep it open while cranking.

'Just want to know the proper way of checking CCC without screwing anything up, while getting an honest reading?

Also, any guesses as to what #s you think we should see from the 117, 10.4-1, T-Man 625 cammed engine?

Looking for input from all "Grouchy Old Farts" (and everybody else, besides Jerry  ;D)on the CVO Forum...

Thanks :2vrolijk_21:

You can just push the throttle blade open with your fingers.....and stick something in there to hold it open....not sure how you would hurt the thing

and unplugging the acrs is as simple as it sounds.....hook up the gauge and roll it over a couple times and see what the gauge reads.

probably crank right at 198-200 or there abouts.....T man stuff never seems to come out right with the math

I prop the butterfly open, and jump the starter with a push button deal from the old car days. Spin engine till the gauge won't move anymore.   ;)

By jumping the starter you take ACR's out of the picture.

By using a jumper to energize the starter you also eliminate the ignition circuit, so you don't need to worry about grounding plug wires.  I use an old remote starter switch from my auto tools, modified with a spade connector to fit the solenoid connector.

'Have a starter button from the old boat shop days.

Will propping open the Butterfly with the key off be the same as unplugging the harness?

Don't want to damage the TB gears... :nervous:

Thanks to all for the info! :2vrolijk_21:
