Tire Question
« on: May 05, 2014, 04:43:32 PM »

The factory tires on my '06 CVO Ultra are:

Front: MT90B16 72H, Rear: MU85B16 77H.

Can I run a 130/90-16 on the front and 180/50-16 on the rear?

Thanks!

An alpha size of MT90 cross references to a metric size of 130/90, so that one is OK assuming you get the same or higher load and speed ratings (72H).  The MU85 crosses to a 140/85 (or 90), so your 180/50 is unlikely to fit the chassis and it definitely wouldn't fit the 3.0" stock rim.  Usually the largest size you could fit and maintain proper clearance on the '06 and earlier bikes was a 150.

What brand of tire are you looking at?  The manufacturer should list both the rim width required as well as the diameter and width.  With that information, along with load and speed ratings, you can make a more informed choice.

I put a 150 on the rear of a 2000 without doing anything else. No way for a 180 without a swingarm mod.

Okay,

I just ordered a 130/90-16 for the front, and a 150/80-16 for the rear. They'll be installed when I have my 60K service next week.

Thanks!
