Vet's Roll 2014...
« on: May 18, 2014, 07:41:12 AM »

Up at 2:00 am today to take my wife to the starting point for this years "Vets Roll" trip to Washington D.C.  She is a bus leader again this year.  10 bus loads of World War II, Korean War and Rosie the Riveter veterans left for Washington at 5:30 this morning.  Several veterans in their mid-90's.  One Pearl Harbor survivor.  Three Hospice patients on this years trip.  Over 200 veterans on the trip, most in their 80's.  Always a moving experience to see these men and women heroes arrive and get loaded up onto the buses to head out on their journey...  They return Wednesday night.

A worthy cause if anyone has the desire to donate a contribution on their website..

100% free to the Veterans.  The volunteers pay their own way.

My Dad is 92 and went a couple years ago. 6 buses from S.C. & Ga. When they got there the WW II Monument was closed due to Gov Shutdown. Narrowly averted WW III

This is my wife's fourth trip.  The first two years she was a bus assistant.   Last year and this year she is a bus leader.  Her father went 2 years ago at age 88.  Time of his life.  The trip originates in Southern Wisconsin.  This year there are veterans from 21 states on the trip.
