Wet Leather Tour Pack
« on: August 03, 2007, 09:15:04 AM »

Rode my '07 SEUC to work yesterday. While my bike was parked we got hit by a freak rain storm. 5 inches of rain in an hour. Needless to say the bike was soaked. My leather tour pack seems to have some loose ripples in it now. Will it tighten back up by itself or is there a way to help the process? I figured on parking it in the sun Saturday and hopefully that will help. Should I also apply any leather treatment?
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

good morning, to answer your question,  it has been my experience that the heat from the sun should help tighten it back up, in addition, after it dries apply the leather dressing, that came with the bike, and leave it to soak in overnite, in the am take a soft terry cloth towel and buff it out. That seems to help it repel water during future rain storms, I usually do this once a month.

Wheels...the leather will tighten back up as it dried thoroughly.  My personal recommendation is after it dries out completely, look in the Vendor Discount section and call the people who sell the Glare products that many of us use.  Get rid of the HD vaseline, order some of the Glare Leather Treatment...one bottle will last you a very, very long time.  It is the best thing you can use on your leather TP and seat, and it does not leave a gooey mess on everything and attract dirt like a magnet, as does the "goop" Harley gave you.

I agree that the Leather Protectant from Glare is the only way to go.  It is a little pricey but well worth the money.  The polish also is great you can even apply to your chrome and it really protects the paint. :carrot:

Thanks for the advice guys. I had the bike out in the sun most of the day yesterday. Leather tightened right back up. The embossed leather on top took the longest, but after a nice long ride in the hot sun it also tightened up.
Perfect! I will get the Glare Leather Treatment and apply it. Yesterday was perfect, sun all day. Today it looks like rain again... gotta love Cleveland.

The biggest problem is that it isn't covered in real leather.

The biggest problem is that it isn't covered in real leather.

Just like the seat, some is leather, some is vinyl.  Actually the vinyl is more stable, the leather more durable.

That is a very common approach even in high end cars.  You might be surprised.

Seems cheesy, though...

Wheels, I saw that lighting while in the barber chair in Lakewood, and we did not get a drop! I agree about not using the harley goop, but I have not tried the Glare product. I got some leather treatment from the Avon Boot shop - of which I cannot remember the name of the product as I write this from vacation at Myrtle Beach. But, the nice thing is it does nor make the leather shiny as I am told the HD stuff does, just a nice clean, rich look, and no streaks. And, I am having a nice vacation, lest anyone wonder why I'm posting while at Myrtle Beach! The condo place just got WI-FI, so, what the heck?

Hey cvTony,
I live in Olmsted Falls and didn't get a drop of rain at home. I work downtown and that's were we got nailed. 5 to 6 inches of rain in just over an hour. Over 100 lightening strikes, too. The funny thing is, the official rain fall is recorded at Cleveland Hopkins Airport. Officially we got NO rain that day. Tell my leather/vinyl or hide of the nauga tour pack that.
