50k service.
« on: June 12, 2014, 02:59:05 AM »

I just turned 50,000 on my 2010 ultra. Motor has ran great so far. Just the regular maint. I am wondering should I have the nosecone taken off and inspect the cam chain tensioners? I had my 04 checked at 40k and one was almost worn thru. EST paid to have them replaced. Anything els I should be looking for. All my friends with this bike have had motors replaced before the 30k mark. I just keep wondering how long is it going to last. Crazy thing is it has gotton so quiet internally in the last 5k miles. It still doesn't use any oil between oil changes. I had the exhaust change at 2k miles and got those darn cats off of there. Put the bub7 pipes on it and a race tuner. Has ran cool and perfect since.

I just hit 56,000 on my 2012. Other then the regular maintenance I'm going to have the front end rebuilt.

Glad to hear positive comments. I have 25k on my 2011 Streetglide and it hasn't missed a beat.

At 50,000 miles it probably wouldn't hurt to look, but the new style hydraulic chain tensioners in your 2010 seem to have much more life in them over the spring loaded chain tensioners you had in your 2004.   :nixweiss:

I think that's what I'm most worried about is the chain tensioners. I think if the valve train was going to give me problems it would of done it before now.

If the bike is all stock, then I would suggest you consider replacing lifters and cam bearings.  Both have well know weak points in these engines.  Many failed cam bearings and lifter have resulted in blown engines.

That's what I have been told. Thanks for the heads up.
