Replacement tires for Bushtec
« on: June 16, 2014, 09:58:15 AM »

What brand of tire is everyone buying to replace their Bushtec ones that are worn? Bushtecs are 6 ply and all I can find in the size required are 4 ply.

Thanks

There are a couple of "bike" tires that are the correct size and they are 4 ply, but the difference in cost spread over the tires life is very little per year compared to the OEM. Mine are 7 years old, and I will get new OEM's this fall, after the riding season. I have almost 30K miles and they may have another 5/10K left, but rubber gets old.

I've also read where the aftermarket are just as good, even though they are 4 ply.
Search the web for Bushtec tires and I'm sure you'll find a lot of talk about either.

They are a bear to replace. Indy who does my bike tires says he changed tires once for a guy's Bushtec (owner brought tires to him) and vowed never again. I just package up my wheels and ship to Bushtec. New tires and wheel bearing aren't all that expensive.

Another benefit of the stock 6 ply tires is they are so stiff they can be run deflated if necessary.  At least long enough to get you in someplace if necessary.  As Jerry mentioned though, and also because they are so stiff, they are a pain in the ass to change.

Thanks Jerry and Don. Sounds like a day trip to Bushtec may be in order.  My recent trailer purchase has the billet wheels and I really dont  want to tear them up.   It looks as though previous owner ran out of adjustment.  Doesn't make a bit of sense as trailer is set up with remote inflate from a key fob.  Previous owner of Bushtec John used to have his son set these up for people that didn't like rolling it back and forth.
