I am one of those people that needs a ridiculously clear view of the road ahead. So, I took the jig saw and brand new Bosch plexiglass blade to the windshield and dropped it 2 1/2 inches. It came out perfect after finishing the edge and it changed not only the view but also the buffeting intensity of the wind at higher speeds. Nice.
So, to try it out, I took that completely necessary ride to the local Harley dealer so I could meditate in the parts department and ponder the absolutely necessary chrome thing or the next Harley logo'd "investment", lol. Like a glowing tribute to my temptations, I came upon the section that we all study carefully that has a big sign that says SALE ITEMS. Being is that I could sit on a quarter and pinch George's nose with my butt cheeks, this section residing in a Harley store is a serious treat for me with all that chrome and leather neatly displayed for my inspection, lol. Among these delights was a box with a big 25% OFF sticker on it that had the same headlamp cowl that is on my Switchblade, just a different color. Interesting. It was an LED replacement lamp set-up that will fit perfectly!! Sweet!!.........Holy chit! This thing is still 300 bucks with the discount. But, it's 100 bucks cheaper than it would normally be. What a deal!! So after sticking the box under my arm I now had another hundred bucks to spend because I just saved that much buying the new headlamp, lol. (Don't kid yourself. You own a Harley CVO. You think the EXACT same way, lol).
So I took it home along with the new gloves and two cool metal signs I got with my 100 "extra" bucks and installed the LED headlamp unit. Absolutely will never go back to the halogen build again. Best thing you can put on any bike for riding at night AND it looks really cool in there.
Although the halogen throws a pretty large area of residual light closer to the bike, the incredibly wide path and absolute daylight crispness of the very white light WAY out in front of me completely takes away that slight edge of thinking "What the hell is about to jump in front of me". I can even see the damn cracks in the road with this thing? And because it last on average about 45-50 times longer than a halogen bulb, it will be a VERY long time before I have to purchase or change the bulb (well, in this case, the entire unit). To me, it's worth every penny of what the full retail price would have been. But I got a pair of gloves and two cool signs in the process.
In my humble opinion, there is no other option than the incredible clarity of the LED headlamps and if you can muster up the fortitude to spend hundreds of bucks on a headlight, the first night out that buyers remorse will simply disappear. Awesome upgrade from the halogen bulb set-up!!
