Ohlins shock advice and fork information
« on: December 29, 2014, 08:51:58 AM »

I have a new 2015 CVORG and though the suspension from Harley is the best ever, it still has room for improvement. after reading all about shocks on this site, I decided to go with Ohlins for both front and rear upgrades so I called Ohlins today:

1) They recommended the HD 159s (gas, no remote res.) over the HD 359s (gas with remote res.) for anyone weighing less than 300 lb. rider, 200 lb. passenger and 100 pounds of luggage! I see a lot of you here on this site use the HD-357 with remote res. I told him I wanted to keep some of the plush ride while improving handling, not full race type suspension! Besides lacking the compression adjustment, why should I buy the 357s over the 159s when the OEM recommends the lower cost 159s? Any advice would be appreciated. My wife is 100lb, I am 200lb.

2) The FKC-101 cartridges will NOT work in the HD 2014 or 2015 front forks. They have a new part number FKC-102 and it will not be available until the end of Feb. About the same estimated price in kit form with oil and tools. Just thought I would share this info. for others with 2014/15 baggers.

I spent over an hour with an Ohin factory guy at Daytona this fall.  He to told me to go with the HD-159 over the 359 with remote resivore.  I went with his recommendation, and have about 5000 miles on them, and am very happy.  This is on the 15 CVO Road Glide Ultra.

His reasoning was the 359 was for the guy riding the bike at 9/10's to 10/10's the capability of the bike most the time.  The guy whos floor boars, floor board supports and exhaust is ground down from running the curves.

I am debating doing Ohlins on my 13 CVO King  110th anniversary color.  He did convince me to go with 13 inch shock over stock 12 for improved cornering and lean in.  Due to the fact I doubt I will ever sell the king as I bought it to keep with my 100th Fatboy.  I am debating mayby going with the 359's and the front forks too.

Thanks for the feedback, I will go with the 159s over the 357s. Not because of lower cost, but because it is a better choice from what both these Ohlins reps have told us.

Nice to hear a rep recommend what is better for the customer as opposed to what is better for his sale.

Very true, and I will call the rep I used the first time when I set up my SERK.

I see you chose the best color for the 2015 SERGU
