Rocker Box Leaking Oil
« on: October 14, 2014, 06:52:15 PM »

Just noticed my rocker box leaking oil.  Can't tell if it is leaking from the top part or the bottom piece due to the oil being blown by the wind.  Question:  if I'm going to the trouble of replacing the top gasket, should I go ahead and replace the bottom while I have it broken down?  Also, is there and thing special about removing the bottom part, is it just unbolt and rebolt?  The top seems pretty straight forward.

Bike is a 2010 SESG with 17k miles.

To replace the top gasket, only the lid is removed.  To replace the bottom gasket, the lid is removed, the rocker and breather assembly must be removed and the rocker box lower half must be removed.  Nothing complicated - just a bit more time involved.

My rear rocker box seeped oil on both my 2005 SEEG and 2010 SEUC..  I was lucky enough on both to remove the rear valve cover and tighten all of the bolts that held the rocker box to the head.  Cleaned area over exhaust port with brake clean and was done.  May not work for you but did for me.  good luck.

I had a different experience than Boatman. '12 SERG -- Long story short, the factory forgot to install all the rocker gaskets. Obviously, mine leaked, as well.
