I've read that some powder coating would be sufficient for exhaust. I personally use Jet Hot, on my wife's bike we did the pipes black and the heat shield in "polish" their version of chrome. My bike pipe and shield in black, everything has held up well.

Powder coating will work just fine on the heat shields, i've done several sets for friends.(I powdercoat by trade) I just sand blast them with a fine media. you dont wanna blast through the chrome, just etch it to help the powder stick. I've had no come backs for  flaking or discoloration. Do not powder the actual pipes. Tried that, failed. Powder bakes in our booth at 410*F Your exhaust exceedes that, and the powder will bubble and flake off.

Good info.  Thanks for that.

I just read somewhere there are both thermo-plastic and thermo-setting powder coat.  Not sure if one works and other doesn't, or what. Any thoughts?

Not too sure, i'll have to look into that, but i've been told that our powder is made from plastic.

The short answer is "sometimes", but the more important question is "WHY bother"?  Just use a ceramic coating that is designed for exhaust components and you have no worries and its offers teh advantage of a thermal barrier that powder doesn't.

As for powder traditional powder will sometimes work farther back on the exhaust where its much cooler, rarely ever on the head pipes.  High temp powder will often work on the whole system but offers limited colors and somewhat of a textured surface.  Ceramic coating is pretty much a sure thing on any part of teh exhaust.

CCP,

Appreciate the info. Not many places nearby that offer ceramic, but it's worth the travel to get it.
