The best cleaner/wax for black is a new color lol. My last bike was vivid black, 3 hours of detailing which looked great for about 10 mins.  :-\
I was going to say the same thing about a lighter color but the wicked sapphire on the bottom of mine is just as bad.  LOL

My older brother was a custom car painter for years. He said the difficulty with dark colored paints is that even after buffing they show very light swirl marks that create a hazy/unpolished look.

I've seen him buff out some pretty glassy paint jobs and they looked awesome. Then I watched him hand polish them with a micro polish (I think it was called Ebony) and an ultra/ultra soft towel.

WOW! No hazy swirl marks. It looked like he poured water over the surface.

I remember it being very expensive. Something like $50 for a 20 oz bottle and that was enough to do one car.

Agreed. I never bought another black bike after the first...til the other day. But now I have a R O buffer and professional Maguires detailing products. I can make anything look new now. Bought th buffer at Harbor Freight and really works great. I replaced the 6" pad with a 3" pad, perfect for the bikes.

I did exact same thing and also the 3" pad.  now i can make any black paint look flawless and new. you'll NEVER get swirl marks out of dark paint by hand.

The painted surfaces is clearcoat, you aren't waxing the black, you are waxing the clearcoat, Use whatever you want, some of the new high end products are pretty amazing. But there are no miracles out there. A little elbow grease and some good carnuba will never be beat. I personally use Porter-Cable orbital with red or yellow 6.5 edge pad and Mothers products. Looks like mirror.
