New Texas Law in effect for 2015 that ask Uhhh?
« on: January 05, 2015, 07:44:11 AM »

Motorcycles
anyone carrying a passenger must have foot pegs, (no problem)
and
Handles?? for passenger!  :-\
is that like "Love handles"

I know allot of  your newer bagger CVO's have a really nice rear seat, mini bar, lounge area back there and
the arm rest could be classified as a "Handle"

just found this article
http://www.bigcountryhomepage.com/story/d/story/new-texas-law-adds-restrictions-for-motorcycles-ca/30617/R5oQWm5Jnk2UlKXm-zEb3A

but really!
now I just heard this on the way in to work so don't have all the facts!
just in case some "Turd" on the radio is seeing if Bromebe is still taking "Hook, Line and Sinker"

Motorcycles already come equipped with so-called hand holds for passengers due to other regulations.  Have you ever wondered why the companies install those irritating seat straps?

If this particular Texas law was in fact precipitated by the death of one young lady who fell off the back of her boyfriends crotch rocket while doing a wheelie, as some have reported, then the laws sponsors are typically stupid lawmakers.  Anything short of a full backrest and seat belt isn't going to prevent that kind of get-off.

Having said that, I still think grab bars on each side are the best way for a passenger to hang on.  I've owned bikes that came with them, and my passenger felt much more secure holding them than she did hanging on to me.  As for the seat strap, that's nothing but a joke that no one I've ever known actually uses.

Sounds to me like the law really targets  one group. I for one hope they don't change much.......at the beach, most crotch rocket passengers present a far better veiw than the azz end of a pickumup truck.  :2vrolijk_21:  :huepfenjump3:

so that's what that stupid strap across the seat is?
yeh like that's going to keep you from flying off!
always just thought it was there to separate the front from the back and a place to slip my ball cap into.

it's kind of another subject but this is kind of part of it,
the wife surprised the crap out of me the other day and asked if I would take her for a ride?
and this is coming from a women that said she would not get near a bike!
but she looked at the size of the back seat yesterday and said
"my butt is not fitting on that"
I smile and said nothing

so that's what that stupid strap across the seat is?

That stupid strap is normally the first or second thing I "fix" when I get the bike home.  Guess I'm going to have to travel around Texas from now on....or until they modify the law.

Nothing in the article made exceptions for backrests/tourpac/trunk?  So do you still have to have a handle if you have a Tourpac?  Dang, dem polytishuns shore b stoopid sumtymes......

I'll agree that SOME, not MOST, passengers on the "crotch rockets" present a good view..there can be tooooo much of a good thing  ;)

As for this "new" law, I would think that Federal regulations already require handholds and footrests(or foot pegs as we commonly call 'em) - which is more than likely why all bikes with a passenger seat come with them when purchased new. Even the "crotch rockets" have grab straps or in the case of my Ducati an actual grab handle on them.
Seems like a "knee jerk" move by the politicians or maybe just a PR move to appease people that something is being done.

If the operator of the bike in question was riding recklessly, doing "wheelies" or whatever, I wonder what punishment the azzhat faced and or received......I really see no reason to pass additional legislation because of it  :nixweiss:

Me too, the strap goes, then the same time the passanger pegs, and a solo seat installed, usually with in two days of getting the bike.
