Electrical Failure and Emergency Handling Test
« on: September 01, 2004, 02:03:18 PM »

Had my bike in for its 1000 mile service on Saturday, Sunday morning it would not start--battery was almost totally dead. Our dealer picked it up Monday, got it back yesterday....they couldn't find anything wrong however. Anyone else had anything like this? (and no, didn't leave it on overnight)

The other issue is that I got to test the emergency handling capabilities of this bike....on a slick road, a late for class college student turned left in front of me....both ends of the bike locked and slid....managed to miss her rear bumper by inches...the bike was absolutely controllable even sliding, so I am real confident in this bike's ability (I have never had to deal with something like this on a bagger and was concerned about its manueverability)  [smiley=drink.gif]

Had a similar problem with my V-Rod & with my Ultra (when I had it).  Both bikes new, on both bikes the battery would charge up, on each it was dead after sitting for a couple of days.  Replaced the battery on both, never had a problem after that on either bike.

As far as handling this is one of the better HD that I have riden,  would atribute alot of it to the lowered stance of the bike.  The Metzlers have also made a big difference as have the kevalar brake pads.

Had appointment to get pipe on the bike, went to start it and it was dead again....its carcass hauled off to HD, latest word is that the drain may be caused by the security system malfunctioning....however the pipe, PCIII and filter are on...nice if I could ride it... [smiley=furious.gif]

My dealer feels that the security system was causing a drain on the main battery so they replaced the security system's battery...have not had a recurrence of the problem yet but I've been riding every day...at startup from cold, the bike's voltmeter (which I have been told is inaccurate) reads 11.5-12 with spotlights and radio off, 10 with them on...for reference what does your bike read at cold start?
