Power Vision follows SERT
« on: January 13, 2015, 11:05:02 AM »

I'd like to move now from SERT to the Power Vision PV-2 for some reason.

The SERT is already connected (married) with the ECM.

Question: does it will work or do I need to make a reset (not knowing how?) of the ECM to use the new PV-2??? I've got some rumors that I will discover problems to use the PV if a SERT is registered at the ECM... :(

Hope I get advise. 8)

Thanks
Gerhard

I have both an SERT and PV married to my 2010 SEUC. I started with SERT and moved to PV later. I've had the PV installed and working since 2011. No issues with either device working properly with my bike.

Thanks  :) this will help a lot... No need for reset or delete of something?

Would you recommend to move to the PV-2?

If you want to start over with the stock factory calibration, you will need to have a dealership load the stock calibration file for your model.  While it may be nice to start with a clean slate before going with a different tuning package, I seriously doubt it would be necessary.

The results you get will depend more on the person doing the actual tuning than it will on the tuning package.  If you can get a good tune using the SEPST, you aren't going to gain anything by jumping to the PV.  If you believe the advertising hype and think the PV with "auto tune" is some sort of magic, you may find differently.  Why are you planning to make the change?

I've had my bike tuned with both the SERT and the PV. I had the bike initially tuned using SERT on a dyno by a competent tuner. The performance was solid. I then wanted the visual capabilities of the PV on my handlebar as additional "gauges" plus I was curious about the auto-tune capability.

I added the PV and then had the bike tuned (again) on a dyno with a competent tuner familiar with the PV. The performance was solid and consistent with the SERT dynotuning. If you start with the PV you can save your original stock map directly to the PV for future use.

I used the PV auto-tuning and found that the "basic" autotuning definitely improved the performance of the bike. No..... I don't have another dyno to prove that statement. Nor does it matter to me what's on the chart. I can easily swap out my dyno tune map for my various PV autotune maps while I'm on the road since I can store 6 maps on the PV. Based on my experience, I would never go back to the original dyno tune. The original  PV dynotune is good. The PV auto-tune based off the original PV dynotune is better. Simple fact when switching between the 2 maps.

There are other benefits that matter to me that may not matter to others. I autotuned a 2-up map with my wife on the bike and a full load of luggage. This PV autotuned map for 2-up riding provides superior performance to the solo map. I also developed an "89octane" map. When I get stuck up in the hinterlands with no option but low octane, its nice to have a map that is matched to the lower octane.

In the end, I've had a fair amount of experience with both the SERT (on my current bike and my previous bike). Its a good tuner but the PV is better IMO and the simplicity of having "everything" you need (no laptop) for basic tuning with the PV makes it an easy decision to recommend the PV over the SERT.

The only other option to consider is adding the WB sensors for better dialed-in autotuning capabilities. But since I haven't used WB sensors with the PV, I can't provide any personal insight.

Thanks all.

@Jerry: The reason to switch from SERT to PV is that most of the local Harley Dealers has no Dyno to make a real tune. They mostly use the canned maps provided by the factory to suits the current changes at the bike. And you probably know how good they are  :(

@Heatwave & Jerry: I have to explain why and how the German local Dealers would handle tuning needs.
When you got a new Bike here (my case a CVO RK) and made some changes like other pipes (almost electronically adjustable exhaust systems) then the local dealers sell without any discussion the SERT to adjust the ECM for that changes. Due to lack of a Dyno they use Factory maps with some minor changes to come as close as possible to your bike configuration. This is recommended due to warranty issues; otherwise you will loose that.

At my last Fatboy 04 I do had a SERT for above reasons. I found a very good and experienced local Dyno Tuner and he used the SERT to tune the bike; and he did a excellent job  ::)
He is since many years a Power Commander & Power Vision Dyno expert and did the job with the SERT as a "Service" for me. He don't wont to go again having my new Bike on the Dyno with the SERT as he don't like it. Thats the reason to move from SERT to PV and I know I will loose my invest for the SERT  :'(

I can't ask my dealer to remake the map to Original because they would ask why  therefore I have to start (save) with actual state.

Hope you're able to read my pure English explanation and understand why it is different to the US.

Thanks
Gerhard

I understand Gerhard.  And many people in the US have similar problems with Harley dealerships selling SEPST's and just loading canned maps, or worse yet doing dyno tunes using totally unqualified people.  If you have a good person to do the tune with a different product, like the PV, then I definitely agree that would be a better way to proceed versus the SEPST with a canned map.
