2005 SEEG radio wiring
« on: January 21, 2015, 09:11:29 PM »

I have a simple question for all the electrical smart people on this great site. I have a freshly refurbished stock radio that won't come to life. There is a dead short in the 'radio power' fuse. My question is what else does that fuse power, if anything? Thanks for any help, and yes, the next purchase will be the manuals. It's just that wiring is all greek to me... :nixweiss:

I just studied the wiring and the fuse ONLY feeds the stereo on the bike as stock. Does the fuse blow only with the stereo plugged in, or have you checked? Wire loom routing from Harley has been a source of many headaches, they even changed some for the 2006 model year.

It kicks the fuse even with nothing attached, there is a direct short in the wire somewhere. A new line it is. My concern was it fed something else. Thanks for your help.

Pull front fairing and check wiring where it crosses the steel brackets, known to cut into wiring and short out.

HDBrad you were right on the money. there was a nick in uoe wire that would short out intermittently. Fixed and tie wrapped to ensure it doesn't happen again. :orange:

Glad you found the problem.  Just FYI in case you need it in the future.  There are actually two fuses that might get you.  There is the "stock" fuse from the "stock" harness location that powers the radio.  The 04 and 05 SEEGs did not use the "stock" radio though.  They used a radio with a larger amplifier that was powered separately by an additional overlay harness that did a home run back to the fuse panel for its power source.  So you can lose the amp and still power the rest of the radio and vice versa.

Glad you found the culprit.  Always good when that happens.   :2vrolijk_21: Stuart
