removal of front fork reflectors
« on: April 03, 2015, 03:25:16 PM »

I tried looking up, but as usual couldn't find any articles about removing those government mandated reflectors attached to the front forks of our cvo bikes. What is a safe way to remove these so as not to scratch or harm those chrome forks we paid so much money for. Thanks in advance for any help in this question.

Heat the fork leg and the reflector with a hair dryer, heat lamp, whatever you have that won't overheat and melt parts.  This reduces the strength of the adhesive.  Then use a nonmetallic tool, like a plastic scraper or even dental floss, to carefully separate the reflector from the fork leg.  Once you have the reflector off, remove any remaining adhesive with your choice of product.  I personally start out using wide packaging tape that I apply to the residue and press firmly in place, then peel it off.  That usually gets the big stuff.  Then I follow up with a solvent such as WD-40, acetone or Goof-Off.

Slid a long zip tie behind it, worked it down a little ways and pulled and it came off with the adhesive tape, no glue left on the fork. Other side broke a few times, but no glue to clean off.

BFH and a cold chisel will get it off.  But, yeah, fishing line is probably the better tool for the job....

Pulled mine off by hand and had only a little sticky tape left on them.  Once I got it to start to pop off it came right off.
