Should hold a good amount of water...nice for the rain...thinking it is part of the suspension for the rider and not having the back sewn up to the seat bottom.

I found this slot as well on mine. I didn't have time to look closer (but I will). My question is does this pocket hold water is it open all the way through?  I have never noticed water there. I would think if it is holding water when I sit down the water would come up and end up in my seat (with my butt getting wet). I have never had this happen. May it has never had enough water in it for this to happen.

I think the slot is on purpose, lets the water have a place to go. Pretty uncomfortable sitting in a cold puddle.

You will all know this I am sure.

But when you take the seat off there is an accumulation of dried off spray and road dirt over all the electrics and everything else under the seat, caused by the two holes in the mudguard were cables pass through. The holes are way too big for the sleeved cables so are a constant attraction for wheel spray. What I have done on all my HD's is to take a biggish lump of Bluetack work it 'till nice and malleable then form a plug sealing the cable hole around the cable. Seems to work ok on all I have done it to.

My week is complete.  I have learned what Blutak is.  Think I will find some. As I am, too, tired of road grime under my seat.

Bet you can't guess what else I am doing this weekend.   :P

Is it because the CVO's have the Hammock seat.  Maybe the design of just the hammock seat is like that?

If you have trouble finding "Blutack" you can use "duct seal". Readily available in 1 pound blocks at home improvement and electrical supply houses. It is a malleable claylike material used to seal most anything.
