Garage Door Transmitter Questions???
« on: February 16, 2015, 09:19:08 PM »

The Garage Door Opener Receiver from the '05 SEEG will operate the door from the '09 SERG and the '01 Switchblade (Dealer installed Transmitters), but not from the '05 SEEG (Original Equipment), which leads me to think that the Transmitter in the '05 is not working properly...

'Have installed a SoCalMoto HID single bulb headlight / LED (bulbs) plug 'n play Passing Lamp Kit, I don't know if this had any effect on the GDTransmitter working or not :nixweiss:

Is there a fuse? Anybody have a wiring diagram or can tell me where to access the wires / Transmitter???

Any help on how to troubleshoot is greatly appreciated!!

Take the fairing off and have a look. Wiggle stuff around. You might be surprised.

Simple test hook up stock headlight with passing lamps off see it it works.   Had heard tell of interference from some headlights.

Lots of guys on here have talked about the interference of the HIDS causing issues with the GDO due to not seeing the voltage change between high and low beams. It's the big reason I never put HIDS on the '11 I had.

I've had no issues with my garage door opener/transmitter functioning properly with my HID's.  Must be some other nuance's involved in addition to the HID's...   :nixweiss:

Nor I.  Did several HID installations on my bikes and others.  The Road King got put together with an LED so never had it there and the side-by-sides on the Road Glide were always very good with just the international reflector and a pair of good Sylvania bulbs.  But on several other HIDs never had an issue with the GDOs that I noticed.

My only HID issue was an ballast/igniter failure in a friend's Road King and the occasional instance of the lights not firing the first time the ignition switch was turned on.  This latter issue was with one of the early release HID kits in what was then my 2005 red bike.  When it happened just had to turn the main off and back on.  But no weirdness I can recall on any of them with GDOs.

I guess that I can put a stock bulb back in and see if that makes any difference...

Does anybody know where the (stock) transmitter is wired up on the '05 SEEG??

Anybody have a wiring diagram??

Jerry, I need Help!!!

The transmitter is mounted to the inner fairing on the lower left (clutch) side.  You have to remove the outer fairing, then it is obvious.  Unlike when you buy a kit and install it yourself, this one was wired by H-D and has a real connector from the bike harness.  Once you have the outer fairing off, you should be able to trace the wires from the transmitter back to where they enter the interconnect harness.  The power wire goes to the cigar lighter (see attached drawing), the other wires go back to the connector at the interconnect harness.

The only way I can imagine the HID install screwing up the GDO operation is if you had to splice wires into the harness for the HID kit and you managed to do so in a way that cut power to the transmitter or isolated the wires for the headlight from the transmitter.  Once you have the outer fairing removed, you can verify the transmitter is operating by cycling the high beam switch with the bike powered up while observing the LED on the transmitter.  If the LED doesn't illuminate for a second when you go from high to low to high or vice versa, you need to check for power on the wire coming from the cigar lighter.  If you have power, then you will need to check the wires from the low and high beam circuits to make sure any splice didn't eliminate those connections to the transmitter.

I wish I could be more precise, but with mine stored under a cover out in a freezing garage, and the manual being less than helpful, I'm rather limited.

The SoCalMoto HID is all plug n play, so I don't think that wiring is the issue... (unless something like the Transmitter power wire coming loose from the Cig Lighter)

The SoCal bulb is not dual "filament", when switched to Hi / Low Beam there is a mechanical reflector (on the bulb) to alter the beam pattern, to give an instantaneous change without the HID "ignition" delay.

Jerry, Thanks a Bunch!! This is the info I was asking for, it gives me the ability to troubleshoot efficiently   :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21:
