Zumo Repair
« on: February 18, 2015, 09:55:20 PM »

For those of you with aging GPS units out of warranty, I found a place that does repairs. My Zumo 550 started acting up last fall. With the help of TrapperDog I tried cleaning the crud out of the screen corners and resetting the battery. All to no avail. When I called Garmin they said they no longer support the 550. They could not/would not steer me in the direction of a repair shop.

So I jumped on line and found:

Short Tronics Inc.
51612 US Highway 169
Mankato, MN 56001-6584
(612)326-4364
www.palmdr.com

Christ Short is the owner and he got my unit repair and on its way back to me in less than a day. For a grand total of $52.90 I got the touch screen replaced the the unit cleaned up. That sure beats the heck out of buying a whole new unit.

Great find. I have been using a way out of date Garmin (which I think is superior to most of the current offerings)  and this may help in keeping it for a much longer time.
