Broken FOB in the boondocks. Test your bike Pin!
« on: February 23, 2015, 10:05:14 AM »

Took the bike for a small ride.  Got gas, Jumped on the bike and the alarm starts screaming. I kept trying to start the bike and it kept telling me to enter the pin.  I enter the pin and alarm starts screaming.

Long story short I never tested the pin and never changed it. Turns out the dealer got the bike from another dealer so the pin I was told was wrong.  once I got the new pin bike fired up.  Back to the problem. Broken Antenna on the bike. My go to dealer in Anderson SC hooked me up nicely. Bike now runs with FOB.

For the love of god test your pin.  I'm sure this has been preached about before along with making sure you battery on the FOB is replaced. This small ride turned into an all day event.

How do you check your pin # and where do you get it from?

The dealership sets the Pin.  You can change it to your own pin number.  You check it by starting your bike without your FOB near you.  Do this incase you lose, damage, or whatever your FOB.

Many different ways for different bikes. FOB with you, turn bike on and press both turn signals together within 3secs. Current PIN will be displayed on the odo.

There's a section in the Owner's Manual that explains how to set your Personal Security Code, and how to use it to start the bike if your fob is lost or just stops working.  I'm not sure about the current manuals, but the older ones actually had a heavy tear out wallet card with the instructions as well as a place for you to write in your personal code.  If yours doesn't have it, I'd suggest making one yourself out of card stock.  Type the instructions and your code, print & cut it out, laminate it if you like, and carry it in your wallet.  Practice using the code on a regular basis, so when you really need to use it you will have the process down pat.

Sometimes when moving my bike around the drive I intentionally leave the Fob in the house just to test using the Pin.  Never been brave enough to take a ride without the Fob but manual Pin key-in has always worked.
