I hate to even think what the margin to the factory is in one of our machines.

Really is scary to contemplate.  After all, even with the larger number of systems, more complicated systems, greater number of security and protection systems built in, etc etc etc; how much car or truck can you buy for $32-33K .

Granted, that's just our bikes.  But even if drop back to a comparison of how $20k buys in a car versus what it buys on a bike it's a scary comparison.

Don, consider a stock Ultra Classic, then add for example our wheels but credit the stock ones, upgrade running boards but credit the stock ones etc. etc.  It is a big $$$$ margin when you consider just the difference charged over the stock bike, let alone the margin in a base bike.

Anyway, I guess I'll stop going on cause there isn't a thing we can do about it.  As with anything you are paying for a lot more than hard parts when you buy something and I wouldn't want anything but a Harley.

Did exactly that once using my bike as template once Rog.  Did it just once.  The add-on differences versus the price difference was, well, dramatic is too kind a word.

Relative to what we might pay to have to buy everything the second time in accomplishing what we're doing the cost difference is justifiable.  Relative to what it costs just having bought everything once, however, we're stucking foopid (I mean that in the best possible way though).

Got to do what makes you warm and fuzzy.  My intention was to point out the resolution of the problem for those who can't live with the sleepy non-performance of the 110's for 2 years or more.

I concur.  Warranty, Smorannty.  When mine breaks, if me and OTIS can't bring the Ol' Girl back to life, I tell Tilley to fix it.  And Tilley, while you're at it, punch them Cases out some more, and see if you can find 15 or 20 more Horsepower in there!  99% of the failures I've ever had, on any Harley I ever owned, has been abuse on my part.  But that's just me.  I buy them so I can ride hard, and run fast.  Never seen one meet those requirements off the show-room floor.  Just never did trust the MoCo doin' my Modifications.  Later--HUBBARD

Were these bikes in stock form when trouble developed?

It's looking like HD has pushed the envelope with the 110 in EPA compliant form. Maybe they need to add a warning that this motor must be modified by the owner to avoid disaster.   ;D

Mine was Bone Stock when it went.
After new engine and Mods no-problem!

I don't have have but 1100 miles on my Jester, but I had the pipes, mufflers, AC, and SERT put on right out of the dealership.  They base mapped the SERT with the 84 map and am waiting to get back home to pick it up from the dealership after having the 1K and dyno done on it.   My rear jug label never changed color, like a lot that I've read in here that kept the stock head pipes did, and the bike, according to my digital temp guage says it runs right around 220...except when I get into heavy traffic and then it's gotten up to around 255.   I think getting the bike out of that factory lean mode helped mine immediately, plus letting it breathe more like it wants to, helped a lot.   I have the 7 year warranty on my bike and my dealer is covering it because I had the mods done by them, so because of that, like Hoist, if I have a major failure on the road and the dealer claims foul on the warranty because of my mods, I'll trailer it up and take it home to my dealer and they'll fix it.   Now internal mods may be different, but then again, if I get 90+ hp and 105+ torque after it's been dyno'd with the limited mods I've done, I'll be happier than a pig in mud, which I am now as it is.   Compared to my 02 Ultra, the 07 smokes!!!!!!!!!!!!  Knock on wood, I've had no problems other than the seal between the inner and outter fairing had to be replaced.

Yes - thus the advantage to having everything done at purchase and commencement of the warranty...  [smiley=drink.gif]

Don't let another dealer see it.  If it gets in the MoCo warranty system as an altered bike your own dealer may not be able to get the repairs covered.

Just a precautionary thought.

So true.  I had electrical problem on my '99 (main breaker heating up and shutting the bike down - then resetting after a few minutes).  Failed in middle of heavy traffic in Daytona in 2000.  Daytona H-D could find no problem.  But when I got home and phoned moco to complain about problem I found out they now knew I had trailer wiring installed and a PC thanks to Daytona H-D's consult with them.  Wouldn't even talk to me until I got everything back to stock.

Skippy, that wouldn't be any good.  Like shooting par everytime you played golf.

Imagine, runs great, never a problem, good mileage, wife is comfortable, no speaker or intercom issues, lots of luggage space, ABS........geez, how boring.
