How many is this now?  Out of the relatively small sample that is the 07 membership here there have been too many dead 110s.  Why can't Harley ever get the bugs out of a new motor before they saddle ownership with being Beta testers?

Don, I think I questioned this a few weeks ago. I think that's at least 3 now. Chit! I just ordered cams and oil pump and decided I didn't want any Warranty. NOT! I'm keeping my 2 Year Warranty! I want to see how many motors I can blow up! The stories of the replacements all sound like HD did right. Time's gonna tell with these 110s. Is this just on Ultras so far? I think so.

Good luck with your replacement SEFLHTCU. I hope they do right by you.

Guys, unless I'm confusing two into one incident I think there's been four mentioned here on the site.  I know of one other about a hundred miles from me that makes five.

Lots of members here complaining about the heat issue with the motors in stock form.  I think I have some recollection of one of those frying a cylinder head without replacing an entire engine too.  But given our total sample sample here that's an uncomfortably large cohort.  Sure am glad my 103 runs good....  (knocking on wood right now!)

2Lane,

Mine is the SEUC in Hawaii, and after the engine replacement and the SE A/C, SERT map #84, and True Duels mine is running a lot cooler. I think it is all because of that LCD oil temp dipstick that is scarring the engine to stay cool...lol

Were these bikes in stock form when trouble developed?

It's looking like HD has pushed the envelope with the 110 in EPA compliant form. Maybe they need to add a warning that this motor must be modified by the owner to avoid disaster.   ;D

Don't really know how valid this comparison is, as it is far from scientific, but I am aware of a dozen or more '07 110's that have been immediately modified upon delivery to avoid the high temps and critically lean AF condition.  These bikes, ranging in mileage from 1k to over 10k have experienced no engine failures.  It would seem to me that the "EPA tuning" is the primary cause of the failures since an inherent parts failure would certainly evidence itself under both engine setups.  My feeling, for what it's worth, is that the factory setup on the 110's is the root cause.

My guess is that a choice needs to be made upon purchasing a new 110 to either worry about the standard warranty or resolve the problem and avoid serious and extended downtime as engines are replaced.  From my perspective, I'd rather forget about the warranty and not have to take the bus home from trip while the bike was sitting at some unknown dealer waiting for parts.  Engine wise, I think we all know that a properly tuned and maintained Twin Cam is literally bulletproof if set up correctly.  Putting it in this condition MAY under some circumstances void the engine warranty, but will have no effect upon the other expensive aspects of the warranty such as electronics, paint, peeling chrome etc.  Doesn't seem like much of a trade off to get rid of cooked a$$, marginally reliable motor and a scoot that won't get out of it's own way in factory trim.....

Hey BLM, you'll know another one within 2 weeks. Hopefully! But why not try to do both. Get the engine running properly from the get-go and keep your Warranty in tact. You can't however, modify any more than Stage I, which we all know sets the engine up properly. The bike can run without the PC, if necessary, this way. With a blown engine, you're not running anyway. For major problems, I wouldn't leave my bike out of town and take a bus home. I'm renting a van and taking it home with me to get fixed. But less extensive failures can be handled on the road by the local dealer. I think you can do BOTH! People have been needling me about this warranty thing. But with these issues on the '07s, they're starting to take it a little more seriously. No one wants to consider a new engine replacement cost out of their own pockets, especially after what we're paying for these things. Minor failures can cause serious damage too. This can occur on any engine. Even if it's a properly set up one. Why take that risk when the factory already has taken it for you. You just have to be smart about how you do it. I don't care if I have to put the stock mufflers back on too.  After 2 years, youl'' know what you have. You either got a keeper or you don't. I want my bike to run properly and I want my 2 Year Warranty too! ;) Hoist!  8-)

I'm glad they're taking care of you. You seem to be taking it well. Is it because you have a Warranty and are not paying to fix it yourself? ::) Good luck with the replacement. ;) Hoist!  8-)

Got to do what makes you warm and fuzzy.  My intention was to point out the resolution of the problem for those who can't live with the sleepy non-performance of the 110's for 2 years or more.
