Skippy, that wouldn't be any good.  Like shooting par everytime you played golf.

Imagine, runs great, never a problem, good mileage, wife is comfortable, no speaker or intercom issues, lots of luggage space, ABS........

integrated GPS, rider info center, trip computer, steering headlights, foglights, air bag, vented windscreen, 110" water cooled stock for a few years now, etc etc etc; yeah, who'd want all that  ;D [smiley=apple.gif] ;D

Not just, manufacturer's actually supply helmets that match the bikes.  And they do it without any hassle or much extra cost.  The manufacturer makes it easy for them to help their consumers this way.  What a novel idea.......    ;D

John, the only thing I can think of against all that is that, in admittedly limit experience, they seem to be a bit harder to work on.  All that cladding makes things a bit harder to get to.  Doesn't seem an unfair trade though does it  [smiley=nixweiss.gif] ?

Don,

On the other hand, all that body work doesn't really matter if you don't have things constantly in need of repair/maintenance/adjustment/etc.  Hard to imagine being able to just ride without having to deal with all the other "stuff". ;)

I did a 15k service on a friend's GW a couple of years back.  All that body work comes of VERY easily.  It keeps the motor pretty clean as well.  The whole rear section (saddle bags and tourpak) all come off as a unit by undoing a few bolts.  Makes servicing the rear end extremely easy.  Of course, they don't break down very often, so you don't get very good at taking the bodywork off! Jerry, it's certainly a warm fuzzy thought.  Truth is though I honestly don't have a clue what their reliability stats might be like.  The few guys I know that ride them are not making any regular complaints about service issues.  So while that's a good sign it's also not a large enough group to be statistically significant or informative.  I do know that the local Honda shop has a really good reputation, is a nice and friendly shop to go visit, and does bizarre and alien things like offer free tire mounting and balancing with purchase of the tires and $19.95 oil changes for any model bike (including filter, a bit more of course if you want synthetic oil).

Have any of you seen this article in the January 07 'Cycle World' pg 67? This seems to explain the problem with overheating and also explains the letter I got from Harley offering to install an EFI upgrade. I scanned in the article and hopefully it will show up here and be readable- if it isn't, maybe somebody can email me with a tip on how to do it.

I'm going to pass on the upgrade, and just get an A/C, slip-ons, Race Tuner, and a Dyno tune to get away from being so lean.

This article talks about the 96" being hot- I would guess that the 110"s are even hotter!

What the EFI upgrade, called the Engine Idle Temperature Management System, does is to SHUT DOWN THE REAR CYLINDER at idle when the cylider head temperature reaches a certain point. Sounds pretty strange to me.

[highlight]After reading all of this ,what about a GOLDWING??????

Riding a Goldwing is like riding a fat girl. It is a lot of fun, but you wouldn't want anyone to see you.

Alright Guys....I'm getting nervouse here  :-?  I thought I'd try and keep my new scooter stock other than a little more Bark, and an occasional "chrome goodie" from the rally's or something ( not that the new Dyna needs much more...that HELPS!)     But what's up with this ??  I've torn down my '85 sporty so many times...I only wanted to wrench for pleasure with this one  :o Looks like an oil temp gage is first thing to buy for 'er after my new baffle instalation!!  I don't care for the idea of shutting down the rear cylinder AT ALL !! so, I'll skip on that idea...even if Harleys " Giving it away" ??   What they should do, is program the bike for FREE with the intent on a Air/Exaust upgrade "option" setting !!! Makes sence to me anyway  8-)  as far as warranty issies are concerned (upgrading)...the dealers servicing our babys should turn the other cheek!! REMEMBER...WHAT HAPPENS IN THE FEILD MAN......STAYS N THE FEILD !!!! [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]
