Throttle Issues
« on: March 05, 2015, 11:49:01 AM »

Had some throttle issues with my SERGU 15 which I will post here because it is IMHO a common to all subject.

Bike had done around 1500 miles from new when throttle response failed on deceleration when using throttle to disengage cruise control. Had no acceleration or deceleration just a lot of spinning and of course cussing. After maybe 2 minutes and gliding to roadside it went back to normal. Rode somewhat gingerly after that and problem reoccurred about 20 miles later. At that stage I had only acceleration until I got the problem sorted.

The whole spinning no response deal occured several more times while riding the 100 odd miles to the nearest dealer who would help me in less than 5 days. I did call 2 dealerships who were close by but they were not interesed in me or my problem. The second one eventually helped me because I turned up on their doorstop.

Issue turned out to be a small gap (2 mil?) Where handlebars step down. This meant the throttle assembly and switchblock were not fully engaged on the handlebar. The result was the throttle not fully engaging inside the handgrip. Simple fix loosen torque screws fully engage entire assembly tighten up and all is well.

Easy enough to work out in the light of day however this happened at night and about 500 miles from my dealer either way on a newish bike I am not messing with something as complicated as fly by wire when I have warranty. The tech who fixed it for me was adamant it had not been properly installed at pre-delivery.

My point in posting is to let folks know about the possibility which may save them a similar amount of cussing. I will drop in on my dealer and discuss pre-delivery when I head home. Not impressed with attitude shown by both dealerships on phone and will deal with that in writing. End of story.

The dealers don't install the hand grips during dealer prep.  At the most, they might install the mirrors.  And obviously the bike ran OK for 1500 miles before you had the problem, so it's more likely something came loose or was just barely engaged when installed at the assembly plant and finally wore enough for the gear teeth to stop engaging.  It definitely sucks having such a problem, but I don't know that I'd go off on the selling dealer without more to go on than the word of the so-called tech at that other dealership.  If he knew anything at all, he would know the dealer doesn't install the throttle sensor and grip.
