Cruise Control Reset
« on: January 04, 2007, 08:05:38 AM »

Has anyone figgured out how to change the upper speed limit on the cruise control.  The 84 mph limit is not good for me.  I can easily cruise at 80 on a long interstate trip, and every time I blip the throttle to pass someone, the CC cancels itself when I pass 84 mph.

Thanks

Thats one I haven't heard of,  it just shuts off at 84mph.  Was sure the 04seeg and the 06cuse would set higher than that but will check it out.

85 is the max on mine. The owners manual states this as well.

Hmm, never knew that. This is probably because I've never been anywhere that I could set that high a speed for any amount of time. When I use the cruise I usually like to set it at 8 mph over speed limit.

Over 85, I'd want my hand on the throttle and be in complete control of the bike. At speed, you can't risk losing your concentration for even a second. No loss not having cruise over 85. Just hit resume when you slow down below the 85 again. JMO. ;) Hoist!  8-)

All you have to do is hit resume and it will go back to pre-set speed

Guess I am just getting too old.  Cruising above 85 seems a bit risky for my reaction time.  I like to have a little closer contact with the controls.  Have to admit using the cruise for periods at 70 or so to rest the old arthritic wrist, but only for short periods. [smiley=nervous.gif]

Not a knock, to each his own for sure! [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Nancy and I doubled up to Charleston on the SEEG to pick up her Lowrider last year and I tried to set it on cruise at 100.
Didn't work.
Had to hold it there.
No problem till we hit rain so we slowed down to 80.

I love the cruise feature but had to give it up on the Frontier due to the Horsepower Inc. throttle body. Throttle rocker on a 50K bike is kinda sad, but effective.

So-o-o-o-o-o.  I guess that's a "No!"

Had no idea that I was the only rider on earth that ever was reckless enough to want to set the CC above 84 mph.

Guess I'm the only rider who ever went across Nevada US-50 and thought it would be faster to set the cruise on 95 mph.  My 1999 FLHTCUI with a 95-inch kit would do it, and I loved it.

And oh yea! by the way, I did lean back and let loose the handle-bars for miles and miles.

Guess it's a miracle I'm still alive.

My cruise control got stuck on 75 the first time I used it.....that will get your attention as you hit the brakes and nothing happens.  Also turned off the switch and still going 75 with traffic stopping in front of me.  The only thing you can do is engage the clutch and coast to the side of the road and wipe your butt.  [smiley=nervous.gif] [smiley=nervous.gif]

It took 3 trips to the HD dealer to fix it.  They finally replaced the entire electronic module.

Probably has a lot to do with the fact that 84 is 9 over any legal speed limit, and a bunch of MOCO lawyers decided it best not to make it easy for people.  Liability and all that chit.  Making sure if someone wants to cruise at 95 (nothing wrong with that) they are totally responsible for the action and not some automatic device.

I was told you can't set a car for higher than these speeds either. It's a safety thing. Evidently, 85 is the fastest they want you to fall asleep while driving! ;) Hoist!  8-)

I think thee is a spot in the owners manual on the 06 CUSE that says the maximum speed that cruise will work is 90 it should be in the cruise control section

Scewtr,
You get the Brass Cajones award for doing that for miles and miles.  [smiley=orange.gif] [smiley=apple.gif] [smiley=carrot.gif] [smiley=banana.gif] [smiley=pineapple.gif] Your reaction time must be superb to to that, especially at 95 mph.  I'm not quite that fast, so I always keep at least one hand on the bars at all times and never use the cruise above 9 miles an hour over the legal limit.  Just me and my personal preference and staying within my riding limits.  Also it is a litigation issue with the MoCo to set the default for the cruise that way.  Sorry, I must be in my MSF Instructor mode, this is my second preaching post today (is it Sunday?)....
