Lazy Break Light
« on: March 27, 2015, 05:41:28 PM »

I have a 2014 CVO Ultra and for some reason the rear break light doesent come on until I'm really applying quite a lot of force on the lever/pedal (already breaking) before the light come on.
I feel the is a very unsafe condition, and am quite concerned about this.
So far the bike has been to 2 differernt dealers and they both say the light are coming on at a point thats withen H/D's specs, but have changed the switches BCM, ECM and god know what else.

If anybody has expirenced this problem, please tell me how to fix it or what to do.

Thank you all in advance for you help.

The brake light should come on with just light pressure on the pedal or lever.  Any dealership that tells you otherwise is FOS, incompetent, or both.  I'd suggest you contact Harley-Davidson directly and file a complaint.

The dealer should have asked - well actually figured out - if this occurs when the rear brake is applied, the front brake is applied or if it occurs whenever the either brake is used. But diagnostics are not everyone's strong suit..... In any case.... there should be an adjustment range for when the switches get "tripped" to activate the lights. It should self explanatory that if it's just the front brake that causes a"lazy" brake light then the front switch might be installed or adjusted incorrectly -- and of course if it's just the rear  brake then it would be that switch..If it's both causing the issue then it get complicated and that's where the BCM and ECM  become involved.

I don't want to speak out of turn but it seems like the dealer is just throwing parts at it hoping to get lucky and have the problem go away......
