2010 Street Glide CVO fuel pump contantly fires
« on: April 03, 2015, 11:01:21 AM »

when i turn the key the fuel pump consistently fires and will not stop. Is it a bad relay ? I just dont know where to start. Its a 110 and was running fine with no issues.

Thanks in advance.

The pump should run for 2-5 seconds and then stop, while the engine is running it runs 100% of the time.  Was any other work done or changes made before this happened?

Hole in the line inside the tank preventing the system from building the required pressure???

That's what I was thinking but wondered weather it would cycle on and off, or stay on continuously

Well I should have checked my service manual first..It states that the pump will turn on with the ignition and if no actual ignition pulses are seen -- meaning the bike isn't actually started -- the pump should shut off after 2 seconds,  just like GMR posted.

The electrical diagnostic manual has processes to deal with a pump NOT turning on but is lacking anything (that I could find with a quick look) about a pump that won't turn off..There is a relay in the circuit and maybe that is a good place to start.

I was told there is no relay ... only a fuse (which when i take it out it shuts off). So im thinking that the brand new thundermax i had put on does not work. Im going to try and switch back to the stock ECU and see if that works.

I looked in the 2011 SESG wiring diagram and the fuel pump is controlled by a relay. It is labeled a system relay and also powers many other engine components like acr's, injectors, ignition coils etc. the computer is what turns the relay on and off. I can't tell by the diagram of the relay is turned on for the 2 seconds and then off until the starter is cranked over, or if the fuel pump assembly has a pressure sensor built in to it to control the pump operation, but I suspect that it probably is turned off by the computer through the system relay after the fuel pump prime cycle. If this is the case, if you swap the ecm back over and it works properly, you will have found you bad component.

The electrical manual for my 2011.5 shows 3 sytem relays- all the same P/N - 31586-07. I am thinking that the fuse box will be labeled as to what relay is for what circuit. According to that same manual the ECM is what controls the pump, the ECM shuts the pump down after 2 second if there is no ignition pulses received by the ECM.

As Krypto posted if you remove your Thundermax and allow the stock ECM control again and the pump cycles as it should yoou'll have your answer as to whether the add on controller is causing your issue.

If you remove the Thundermax and still have the same symptoms your going to need your Electrical Troubleshooting Manual and a good dose of patients to find the problem.

Bet you're happy you still had the perfectly fine OEM ECM!?
If you stay with t-max keep the OEM close.
Most of the t-max guys I know keep the OEM ECM onboard for if/when the t-max dies.

Does your stock ECM have a tuned calibration in it for your bike or is your bike stock?  Riding a bike with performance mods and a stock ECM pro isn't isn't a good idea.
