SEUC w/King Tour Pak
« on: January 06, 2007, 08:43:32 PM »

I've made up my mind to proceed with having a king tour pak painted to match my Haze SEUC. Now that I've made everything detachable, that seems like the next logical step toward a legitimate tour bike. The baby leather "glove box" from Harley on the SE is an adequate backrest for the wife but comes up short when I pack for real road trips. Now that I can remove it in 30 seconds I'm going to have the option of installing something a little more practical. I'm curious how many of you have already opted for a King tour pak. If you have and I know several of you have, please post some pictures. I'm planning to drop of my king tour next week for the painter to get started and would appreciate your creative input.

There was a black CUSE at the shop with a king tour pak painted to match.  If it's still there I will take a few pics and post.

Met with my painter yesterday and dropped off the tour pak. He's said to be the best in Kansas City. He does all kinds of fancy detail work, flames, rivets, celtic designs - anything you want. His opinion for a SEUC tour pak was to go with a solid color on the tour pak that matches the top of the saddlebags (autumn haze), tank and fairing. He said an unwritten rule in automotive design sez light color on top - dark colors below. He also discoraged trying to create a second wedge design on the tour pak. All recent SE baggers have had versions of the wedge, flowing from the fairing down across the tank and out across the bags. The wedge symbolizes forward movement. It's in his hands now.
My tour pak is a straight king, not an Ultra tour pak. I think the simpler appearance will go well with the theme of the SEUC. I may add some LED's below later. I'll post pictures as soon as I get it back.

Just out of idle curiosity, how much is he going to charge you to paint the tour pak??  Enquiring minds what to know.  ;)

$350 because of the complexity of the paint work required. [smiley=znotworthy.gif]

EZ...that's not bad at all, IMO!  Are you going to get the backrest to match the seat?  The stock backrest won't work, from my understanding.

Not real sure what I'm going to do about the backrest yet. I have a plain King Tour-Pak backrest pad that I used with this tour pak on my Road Glide. I could use it with the speaker pods below. I'd really like to have the ostrich insert in the backrest that's in the seat though. I haven't tried the backrest from the SE leather tour pak with the king yet to varify that it won't fit correctly. Anybody know for sure?

All Haze might just look good up there, can't wait to see your pics.  Your gettin a deal on the price too.  The backrest off the leather tourpak won't fit the regular tourpak, but HD does make a backrest for the regular tourpaks with the ostrich pattern.

FR8, just confirmation that the F!@#$%g thing should have been the standard for our bikes.

Any competant upholstry shop can get or has the ostrich insert.

There is a CVO owner that has a shop in Seattle and does hundreds of seats a month on all types of bikes.  He does mail order and could modify your stock unit.

www.richscustomseats.com  He did my redo on my SEUC and inserted ostrich in the large rider backrest I am getting from him as well.  Highly recommend him if you don't have an alternative.

I just sold my stock seat on ebay so checked out the backrest for the standard king for a buyer and frankly was surprised at the reasonable price for it...$269 bucks, and if purchased from a 20% dealer, $215...not too bad.

The stock unit will definitely not fit though...
