Crap...need to decide what to do
« on: April 11, 2015, 10:32:59 PM »

Hi All, my local dealer has all 3 colors in stock and I really like the new features of the 2015 CVORGU.  I have a 2012 CVORGC in Maple and love the looks of her rear end  :P and color but she has been in the garage basically for 3 years (3000 miles is all on her) since my job has taken me away from any good riding for the last 3 years and we moved to the land of snow again.  But I am relaxing the job a bit to enjoy things a bit more which includes getting more riding time back.  I have the matching detachable king pack on my 12' but I was getting ready to drop about 3000 for new lights, and stereo with nav trade ups and few other small but always costly it seems items.  They have offered me a pretty good deal on mine for trade but I need to be convinced that the new ones are worth the difference to me.  I am 6' about 195lbs and the wife will be riding with me since again she got rid of her sportie.  I like the blaze/maroon but also like the carbon/autumn.  The 12' was my first Shark and I am hooked on them now.  they are staying on MSRP but no destination charges and I am trying to get 500 for a new jacket and the 1000 mile service thrown in.  Difference in the two is about 8000.  Thoughts? :nixweiss:

Sounds like you're ready to pull the trigger and that's a fair deal imo.

life is too short to worry about what-ifs.  you like the shark (smart man  :2vrolijk_21:) and since your wife is going to be riding with you, she will be a whole lot more comfortable on the ultra.  cushier seat, longer travel shocks.  throw in the linked brakes, infotainment (that one could be a plus or minus right now, but hopefully they'll get those issues worked out), and other amenities, if it isn't going to hurt you financially, i say go for it.

Totally agree with skratch.  Traded in my '13 RGU for my Carbon/Autumn SE.  Night and day difference. This is the most comfortable I have ever been.  The bars being further pulled back make for a nice relaxed ride for me.  I'm 6' 3" / 280 and my wife is 5' 9".  We threw on the kury trunk extender and I lowered the pass boards to the middle spot and she is in her comfy zone. She likes having a warm butt in the winter now too  ;)   The other thing I would say to add Is the 15" wind splitter for your height. I ride with that and switch to the 19" in winter or very long trips. I'll just say enjoy your new ride... 8)

That deal actually sounds amazing! I understand you dont have many miles on yours but 3 years newer and a bike with a higher MSRP? Whats the diff in just the MSRP's? look at buying a $32,000 car (especially American car) 3 years ago and trying to trade it in on a 2015 with the same MSRP as this bike and you are much, much more than double than what your talking about. I would say RUN and take that deal and I have the exact same bike as you and love it.

Thanks to Everyone for the input and the solid advice(I feel like a junky asking a junky if a fix is a good thing  :apple:), I think the decision has been made. Several valid points and yes the dealership is giving me is pretty sweet trade and I am a pushy guy but I know they have to make a profit to stay in business so I tried not to be an azz about it all.  The sales manager just happened to be there when I was arranging to get mine out and he was saying how things were slow and the latest little snow we had pushed back the sales they were hoping for etc.  so I took advantage of everything I could.  He calls last night just to be sure I was on the HD site to check out all the  things I could online also which I  thought was a good thing.  Now the kicker...we talk about my 93 Fatboy which is my BABY since 1994 (has been through 2 wives, Canada to Key West and Pikes Peak and they want it also if I can throw it in for a marginal trade so they can sell it to one the service reps who is needing a good clean ride he can afford. So...the BABY is going away :'( and I am giving the guy about $1500 worth of parts I had taken off her such as a complete set of tin, wheels, etc.  Now what color....I am leaning towards the  Carbon Dust/Autumn Sunset but kinda figure most hard core HD people will lean towards that also...and I like to be different. ;D but that is a pretty sweet combo.  Wife says she doesn't care so we'll see which they have left in stock Monday.  Thank you Everyone...one of the things I am going to ask to do is check the fit on me (pull the pin if needed) and the water leak issues are checked out before I leave the parking lot or at least verify they are aware of them.  Pics will be posted once the deal is solidified.  :huepfenjump3:

 I totally agree.

I figured out what I actually have in the 12'  OUCH...man the baubles and trick/performance stuff REALLY adds up.  Don't think about until you go to get rid of them and of course the dealership is the one I bought all the HD stuff from which I know helped.  Next owner will appreciate it though I'm sure.

Come on Monday.

No!  Wait! STOP....what are you thinking?  :huepfenlol2:

Hey, you had to have at least one descenting vote. :2vrolijk_21:

Seriously, I stay out of these things and my thoughts.  In the end, you're the one that has to live with the consequences (good, bad or indifferent) and make the payments.....a decision only you can make.

Good luck with your decision and........oh yea, don't forget to take the camera with you tomorrow.  :P

That's the truth brother...I know that on my '01 Fatboy I spent more on modifications than I spent on the bike when I bought it new - to say it's a keeper is an understatement, and the "extras" are adding up on the FLHTCUSE6 - but not quite to the level of the Fatboy.

Enjoy the new bike Dare  :2vrolijk_21:

I don't know if you have to pay sales tax, but without tax, the numbers seem to be like this:

With setup fee of about $1000, and no destination charge, the new one comes in at roughly $39,500.  Then subtract about $1000 for the jacket and first service, so you're getting the new one for roughly $38,500.  You said a difference of $8,000 after your trade, so they're giving you about $30,500 for your '12 (Is that with the tour pack on it?  If not, that's another $1000 or so in pocket.)  So you're getting pretty good bucks for your trade-in.

Based on numbers shown previously shown on this site, the dealer paid about $32k for the '15.  They can sell your '12 for around/+ what they are giving you for it.  Then there's what you'll spend to get the new one where you want it.

But those are just the numbers.  Only you can tell if the non-money benefits (looks, comfort, reliability, performance) of the new one are worth what it costs to get them.  That can be a tough wrestling match.  Good luck.

When I saw pics of the autumn sunset I really liked it. Saw it in person and was not really impressed. Saw the blue and red and fell in love with both. Eventually settled on the blue due to availability and couldn't be happier.

Good luck with your choice.
