New Project '42 WLA and need help

I have come into  possession of what appears to be a 1942 WLA.  This is most definitely a huge project for me and I am asking for guidance. 
 I am trying to trace the engine serial number, but it is proving most difficult. Any help or advice is most welcome and appreciated

Your serial #s don't seem to follow standard protocol for that time period.
