Well I sold my 2003 H-D truck. Got more for it than I'd have been comfortable asking anyone I know or like. ($21,000) It had 63,000 miles on it and the hood and air dam needed repainting. I bought an 08 Ford Ranger Supercab for $19,800. I went from the most expensive light duty truck Ford sells to the least expensive (well almost I did get a few options) Anyway, $40 fills the tank instead of $80 and I go all week on that $40. The seat is comfortable, the A/C cools quicker with 1/2 the cab space and the CD player while only holding 1 CD at a time works fine. Automatic trans, power windows, door locks and remote mirrors make it feel a bit above a standard shift hand crank model.  I'm saving $60/week on gas, $90/month on insurance and $190/month on the payment. I can get used to not having the best truck around for $350 a month in savings. My only regret is the dealer did not have any on the lot with the 4.0l engine. I will most likely have to trade this in 3 years the way I keep the 3.0l revved up. The trans is a 5 speed auto and I am constantly making it downshift to stay at 80mph Cal Freeway speeds. Anyway, I am putting a toneau cover on it, having the seats re-upholstered in tuck and roll naugahide with H-D logos and putting some cool wheels on it. I found some metal H-D emblems I put under the Ranger badges on the Fenders and tailgate just like I had on my H-D truck. So I got a faux Pumpkin and will soon have a faux H-D truck. I am so fake I belong in California   :D

I own both ford and CHEVY in my business , Have spent more $ on the fords than the CHEVY  in normal maintenance and other wear items... Just today purchased an 07 Silverado. BTW ford donates and supports an agenda that I do not believe in .... Go Bow Tie or just ride the bike or walk...

FORD SUPER DUTY all the way!! If you want something that rides nice and has alot of luxury than buy a chevy, but if you want a real truck that is made to be a truck, than buy a SUPER DUTY!! :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21:
Thats why you see alot of ford trucks in commercial use, cause they take the abuse!!
  Ford is the #1 selling pick-up for 23+years now :vrolijk_10: :vrolijk_10:

As they say, Chevys for show, fords to go!! :bigok: :bigok:

This is always an interesting debate. Here's my 2 cents. In the last 7 years I’ve owned an 2001 F-250 Super duty extended cab, a 2003 F-250 Super duty extended cab and a 2004 F-150 super crew. All of them have been good trucks, well one big problem with the 01’.

Before these I had many years of Chevy’s and GMC pickups and vans, ½, ¾ and 1 ton, 2wd and 4wd, automatics, standards, straight 6’s, V-6’s, V-8’s and diesel’s, single and dual wheel.  Come to think of it, the last car I owned was a 73’ Monte Carlo with the swivel bucket seats with a 350 with a Quadjet. It was the longest, heaviest, worst fuel consuming car I owned but one of my favorites. Like driving the living room Lazy Boy down the rode. I much prefer to drive a pickup, even on long trips we always take the truck.

I had always had good luck with all of my older Chevy’s and Jimmy’s. I went to Ford in 2001 because I wanted a heavier work truck and at the time GM didn’t have a “Super duty” type line and their designers seemed to be pushing toward a more car like ride. The torsion bar front end suspensions didn’t seem to be holding up very well in terms of plowing, at least from what I had heard at the time. Again this is back in 2001.

My first F-250 SD was an XLT package with the plow and towing group with a 5.7 V-8. A little under powered for a truck rated at 8800 GVW. The truck was great in the snow, ran well on the highway and was fairly plush on the interior but rode like a truck. After 34,000 miles the engine developed a knock and was replaced. They never did figure out the problem but the new motor was fine till I traded it at 80K. It was one of those vehicles that seemed to have a target on it and I was hit  3 different times.

The F-150 had the smaller 5.4 V-8 with a 6’ bed and was also an XLT. Ran fine although the motor sounded funky but again it ran fine. This truck rode really good, handled well on the highway and had a lot of interior room. 4 door cab. Handled everything I put in it but I needed a plow truck. This motor/truck combination was pretty good in terms of power.

The 2003 F-250 I now run has a V-10 with 360HP. It is also an XLT. It has the plow and towing package. It is by far my best truck yet. The V-10 seems to be a real nice fit, power to weight ratio, for this truck. Plenty of power, it cruises at 85, 90 with little effort. Good acceleration, pushes snow without any problems, it has a leaf spring front end so it rides harder then the new ones that are coil over.  It has manual locking hubs with a floor shifter for the transfer case. I trust this set up better then the vacuum assist, a little more work to get out and lock the hubs but normally it shouldn’t fail.

I love the Ford Super duty line but don’t care for the front end styling of the 08’s. Now that GM has been in the Super duty arena for a while I’m sure they make a good truck too.

I honestly believe that both Ford and GM make good trucks, I like the Ford for a more truck like feel, harder ride for a work truck. IMHO…

I'd rather drive the cheapest Ford Pickup ( I am LOL) that the most expensive Chevy. I drove Chevy for years, they were noisy, rusted out quickly, got lousy fuel mileage and the interiors were cheesy. Met my wife, her Dad was a Ford guy the rest is pleasant history

For what it's worth:  My father, father-in-law, and brother-in-law all worked for GM.  As employees/retirees they receive a discount which basically allows them to buy vehicles at true dealer cost.  Obviously, when they purchased a car they purchased a GM model.  During the past 25-30 years, however, whenever they bought a pick-em-up truck they contacted me to arrange a purchase using my employee discount with Ford. :nixweiss:

I've had my Dodge for a little better than two years.  Have almost 60K on her.  I've had the other two brands, and in my opinion, they are inferior to the Dodge.  The Cummins is a real diesel, built on true diesel architecture..........not a gasoline engine block.  Sure, amenities are sparse compared to the other two, but I bought the truck for hauling......not because it is full of bells, whistles and leather.  I was sold on Dodge not because of the Dodge brand, but because of the Cummins Turbo Diesel.  When I first entered the Army in the early eighties, we had just been fielded with new 5T trucks that had CTDs in them.  In all those of years of military service, I've never seen a finer engine.  The Detroits in the tracked howiters and ammo tracks and personnel carriers were always breaking (based on V8 gasoline architecture) whereas I never saw a Cummins break.  I'm sure some did, without a doubt, but mine never did.  I'll stick with my CTD powered Dodge.
