I wonder if doing a factory reset first and then loading the latest and greatest software would make any difference? I have to believe they have a way to reset the system back to it's initial state.
As for some people seeming to believe the update fixed all their issues while others continue to report problems, and some indicating the update skipped over several of the individual steps and they were able to finally get it to run through all the steps after trying again, perhaps that is due to a corrupted existing file in the system, or just a poorly written install routine in the actual download. I see the same thing with the monthly Microsoft downloads when I look at the history, some items install and others fail, then the ones that failed get installed the next time Microsoft pushes it out.

Whatever it is, H-D needs to do better not only with the original software but also come up with a foolproof update process as well. Not everyone is a computer geek. And how hard would it be for them to let people set up automatic alerts with H-D sending emails letting them know about new updates? Lots of companies do it, so it's not like they would have to invent something new.
