Rob, I don't use the automatic screen adjustment, I have mine turned to daytime and leave it that way. It is very bright, day or night. Had a driver in a car at stop light last night in St Pete say, I can see your dash better than mine. I road earlier today (HOT) and also have no problem with visibility.
If I have any complaint it would be for the weather radar to be a little more defined, but then again it is much better than nothing. The nav works excellent now, easy to set and once you learn the voice commands that works pretty smooth to.

Another update. Rode 7 hours to overnight destination and back home today without any issues. Everything I tried using worked without exception. No hiccups.

What does it mean in the directions to copy the zipped folder to the root directory (the first or top directory of a USB drive)? I downloaded the update. Plugged in a brand new out of the package USB drive and it already shows some things on it (file folder, document and application). Do I need to put the update above those current things?  :nixweiss:

As long as it's right there, you're good. If you were to stick it in a folder in that directory, then you'd have issues. Don't forget to extract those files from the .zip file you downloaded.

Weird. Why do we seem to have a 50/50 success non success rate?

You guys are killing me!!! Anyway, I went to the HD download page because I wanted to re-read the instructions for this update to see why so many are having a problem. I immediately got hit with a survey request. I took the survey and added the following to the additional comments section:

"I have a degree in software and electrical engineering. Downloading and uploading the Boom updates are easy for me. Many CVO owners on the CVO forum are failing to successfully update the boom software, so I think you need to try and improve the update instructions. Remember, a lot of users don't really know how to do the most basic things on a computer. They don't understand what a "compressed file" is, or what a zip file is, or how to unzip it etc. They may not even have the fortitude to carefully follow detailed instruction. Unfortunately, you will need to explain how to do this update as if you are explaining it to a child. Show some images of both Windows and MAC OSX file systems as examples of what they should see for files prior to plugging the flash drive into the bike. Anyway, I don't have the patience to explain to the users on the forum how to do this update. It is your job to make it easier somehow. I personally think it is great and simple and it is a great system, and appreciate being able to easily update as new features are added as well as bug fixes.
Sincerely,
HighOnHD@XXXXXX"

Here's a youtube video to help. You'll select the flash drive as your destination on where you want the files to go to.

I've done it correctly without success. I have the new high contrast screen features but AVC still the same. Have to reset it every time to get it to work. The other glitches I'm not sure about yet.

Software, believe it or not, does not have a mind of its own. On the same hardware it will run EXACTLY the same instructions UNLESS something is wrong with the hardware.  For me, AVC functioned just as you explained. The new update, for me fixed it. AVC works perfectly everytime. Has for several rides of extended length. Just saying.

In earlier posts you will find that several have reported that after they downloaded/uploaded they had some new features, yet some features did not work, and somethings were missing and other issues. Several have also posted that they followed up by starting over and re-downloading/uploading the update again. This then fixed all the problems for them. I don't know if initially the wrong update was chosen and uploaded or even if the system allows that. It may be that sometimes the unit does not fully install the CORRECT update. In any case, it appears to me that once a proper update is in the system it works. One thing I believe I mentioned earlier is I connect the memory stick to the USB BEFORE turning the bike on in accessory mode. This is what I did and it just all worked the first time. Hope this helps.
