NEW 9.00 H-D Dealer Database released but.....
« on: May 25, 2015, 07:40:19 PM »

The new dealer update for the Zumo 665 has been released but for the life of me I cannot get it to download onto my Garmin. Does anyone know how to do download it. The instructions they give are just not working for me.

Just checking.

Are you using POI Loader to install the update?

If yes then forget about this post. If not you will have to download POI Loader and use it to install the update.

I thought the HD Road Tech Zumo's only went up to the 660 model??  I have a Garmin Zumo 665 and a HD Road Tech 660.

From the Garmin website.  It is not explicit but I am almost certain that you must have the Harley Road Tech version of the Zumo 660/665 - it will not update to the plain Garmin version of the Zumo 660/665.

Installation Instructions
Please ensure your GPS is turned on and connected to a USB port on your PC.
Remove and save to your PC any file inside the navigation unit's Garmin\POI\folder. (If the update for some reason does not work, you may want to save the original file back in the Garmin\POI\folder.)
Download and run the executable file with the powered on GPS unit still connected to your USB port on your PC.
When prompted, select the location of the 'POI' folder on the navigation device (ex. F:\POI), and click 'Extract'.

Nope there are HD Road Tech versions of both the 660 and the 665.  I know two folks with the RT 665.

Learn something new every day.  I couldn't believe it when our '14 CVO Deluxe came with the 660 AND the dealership list was older than my 665 with the dealer list from Zumo forums...

The POI file for the dealers will download to any Zumo 600, 665, or the new 590LM. It deals not have to be a Roar Tech.

Make sure you download and use the Free POI Loader program from Garmin.
This file is from Garmin, Harley has the link on their website but it is a Garmin file.

First of all let me say that I do not claim expertise so please take this information as my best but not necessarily 100% accurate information.

On the Road Tech version of the Zumos when you select 'Where To' the next screen displays a separate menu icon for Harley Dealers.  I thought / remembered ?? that on the plain Garmin versions of the Zumos no such icon displayed.  You could load them with the POI loader and then select them from the menu icon entitled 'Extras' and then from the next menu entitled 'Custom POIs.'

I tried the Garmin way and it did not work for me.  As it instructed I did locate the drive ID of my Zumo (in my case it was drive D but it could be different on your computer) then I drilled down to the Garmin folder and then the POI folder.  I moved the file located there to my desktop so the POI folder was now empty. I double clicked the downloaded file from Garmin and it extracted but nothing happened.  So I just copied the extracted file to the POI folder on my Zumo and it worked fine.

The file name for the Harley dealer database is:  D168500H.gpi.  That is the file that extracted from the Garmin download.  The file I removed from my Zumo was D168500F.gpi so I think the alpha designation of F or H indicated the version of the file with H being the most recent.

Hope this helps but if I am incorrect someone please let me know and I will delete this post.  Sure don't want to screw up anyone's Zumo - well not worse than Garmin does, lol.

ZUMO Dealer Database Update
« Reply #10 on: June 02, 2015, 10:41:21 AM »

This may be a repost but I noticed yesterday that a new update is available for HD dealers for the Road Tech units. I no longer have one but I remember it was very fast and easy to do.

I figured out what was wrong.  The executable file will not open with my Macbook.  Had to have a friend use his windows computer to download it.  worked as described.

I thought it was also strange that the database was not updated for the 665's???  it is still on version 7.00

Doesnt need the POI installer.

Heres the link:
http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=5068

The file on the Garmin website self extracts to your Garmin Device providing the device is plugged into the PC. Choose the POI folder on the Garmin GPS when the file extracts in the instructions below. I have just downloaded and installed direct to my Garmin 660, and the Harley listing appears as a Harley emblem on the "Where To" page on the GPS.
However, I am finding I only get Dealerships dispayed upto a maximum of 233miles away. But I have just figured that out why it does it. The database looks for dealerships in a 100 to 300 mile range around your present location. By changing the "NEAR" city in "Where To" from "Where I am Now" to " A different City" you get the dealerships in the 100 to 300 mile range around that new city. I just entered New York, NY USA and got the dealerships upto 137 miles away, That's Chesapeake HD. So its a full world listing of Dealerships. Tried Sydney Australia and got a listing of dealerships upto 2869 miles from Sydney (Its a store in Denpasar, Bali Indonesia actually !!!!). So its a random distance depending on location.

Installation Instructions
1.Please ensure your GPS is turned on and connected to a USB port on your PC.
2.Remove and save to your PC any file inside the navigation unit's Garmin\POI\folder. (If the update for some reason does not work, you may want to save the original file back in the Garmin\POI\folder.)
3.Download and run the executable file with the powered on GPS unit still connected to your USB port on your PC.
4.When prompted, select the location of the 'POI' folder on the navigation device (ex. F:\POI), and click 'Extract'

It's been almost a year since the last update.......is this a yearly thing?

The newest I can see on the Zumo Forum is from 2012.

Nope.  9.00 is the most current.
