DUCATI
« on: January 13, 2007, 04:03:00 PM »

I am Norwegian. I love my Harley, and I love America. Still, I am fascinated by the Italian bikes, and Ducati in particular. They are dedicated to sound as MoCo, as they are true to their designs.

My question is: How are the Ducatis doing in the US? Are there many of those bikes over there in The New World?

As Euro Sport bikes go I think they are doing fine.  A number of my sportbike friends ride Ducs.

I have always thought of getting one myself but realized when i sold my Honda 1000CBRF, that I should never get on anything that can go that fast so quickly, not because I couldn't handle it or didn't enjoy it, but because I would be using all of it all of the time.

This would not be condusive to economical use, the money spent on tickets would make the operating costs much to high.

Bottom line, the Ducati is well received in the "new world"  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

I hear you Brian, but you don't have much to show for that OCD when all is said and done.

Besides, I would definitely push the odds with a near 60 year old on a bike that driven to its near limits is better suited for a 25 year old's reflexes and a near 60 year old's sensibilities, of course since I'm 57 going on 19 none of this would matter, I'd be out there ridin' like I stole it most of the time and sooner or later I'd have an "aw chit" moment that unlike the hundreds I have had to this point I wouldn't be able to avoid.

I'll just stick to my current OCD issues and leave the over 140mph OCD's to those wishing to tackle them.  Anything I do over 140 will be in my SRT10 or a pointy nosed cage.........

The Ducatis are doing fine in this part of the country (Southeastern US)  I have the Mulitstrada 1000DS, which is more of a sports touring bike, with a more upright riding position.  It will still go very, very fast, and begs to go there as often as I'm willing to put it there.  There is nothing that feels quite like a Duc, and definitly nothing that looks quite like the Italian styling and attention to detail.  Heres a pic of my bike, with the topcase for carrrying neccesities...like a first aid kit... [smiley=nervous.gif]  I've only had it to 130mph, but it had some more to go....steady as a rock at that speed, but things happen mighty quickly at that speed....

Really, I just put rainsuit and jacket in there, but it will hold a full face helmet as well...

Roger...there are two models of this one, the 1000DS like mine, and the 1000S, which has Ohlin suspension rather than Showa, like mine.  Motors are the same.  I think now they have come out with an 1100 version...even more HP/TQ.  My bike has 92HP and about 70FP, and that is with the stock header pipes and muffs.  Staintune makes a nice set of stainless headers for Ducs...even into the stock muffs, it gives it a bit more throat, and ECM can compensate for those without mods...it would bump my bike up to near 100HP.  Keep in mind, this is a 430lb bike!!  It is not "peaky" like some, but pulls strong from 3K up to 8500...with a 6 speed.  Brembo brakes all around.  The computer on the dash gives fuel level, Mpg, Oil temp, Odometer, trip, speed, rpm, and a whole bunch of other stuff I can't remember right now.  The Trellis frame is really a nice piece of engineering, and looks cool too, particularly in RED.  Gas is held partly in the rear portion of what appears to be the tank, the rest under the seat to keep the CG low. They make a nice set of paniers (saddlebags) for it too. If you shop around, you can get some good deals...

Always glad to lend a bud a hand... ;D ;D  I run Mobil MT4X (10w40) in the motor.  Service is required every 6K...the valve train on Ducs is very different, so that is the only thing that requires a qualified service tech, as it is a shimmed valve adjustment, but generally is only needed every 12K...just checked otherwise.  No chrome though...just lots of Carbon Fiber goodies... ;)

Here's little fuel to the fire...just looked at the Duc site myself and the new Multi has the 1100 and a wet clutch instead of dry.

But here's a couple of pics of mine from different angles...
