Can I do this.....?
« on: June 22, 2015, 02:40:53 PM »

Ok, can you remove the clutch basket, chain and inner primary without removing the Compensator? BECAUSE, I want to change the 32t to a 30t and REALLY don't want to remove the Comp again.....

Sorry if this is a stupid question but something in my head says yes....

No.  Compensator has to come off.

I just did the 30t conversion and like Desertwndrr said, no.

You have to slide the comp and clutch basket off together, the primary chain will not bend nor is there enough slack to slide up and over the sprockets.

You will be SOOOOO happy with the 30t tooth.  I'm going to try again to communicate with the ECM with another laptop this weekend to change out my speedo ratio.  My speedo read 78 when the GPS said 70.

I plan to write up my report after I've ridden the bike some this weekend.

Are you doing the swingarm conversion too, or just swapping in the Falcon 139t belt?  I did the welding and grinding and it was the right thing to do as now I can use a stock belt and if that breaks, I don't have to send out to get a "special" belt to get me home.

The comp nut was not my issue, the tranny sprocket nut was the hard one.  I had my 3/4" drive modified socket on a 30" 3/4" breaker bar with a 4' pipe over that.  I had my rear wheel out and with the bike on a center jack and tied down on the main table lift I was lifting the bike off the center jack.  I did NOT try an impact on the tranny nut...

I eventually got it after three applications of quick heat on the nut to loosen up the red Loctite.  When it did break loose, it just made a grunting noise and slowly, still with LOTS of muscle, it turned off.  It's weird as the manual only calls for 35'/# of torque on the nut plus alignment of the locking plate.  But once that red Loctite sets up, all bets are off.

Good luck.
