new bars
« on: July 01, 2015, 11:39:09 PM »

looking at a new set of bars for the 06 cvo ultra. the bars i am looking at are LA Choppers 10" Twin Peaks. Anyone have these bars on their bike and will i need to replace any cables, lines or anything else? Basically is there anything im going to need besides the bars? Thanks in advance!!

Not knowing that particular set of bars. But at 10 inches I would almost bet you are going to need new cables. The wiring should be OK.

Isn't the wiring internal on that year too?  It I remember them correctly, the twin peak bar goes up into a point adding even more distance to travel internally.  So I'd think you'll need the harness extenders.  I know American Iron Magazine advertises them.

It is internal wiring..  i was really hoping to avoid cables and such because of the additional cost. If i have to do that for 10's i may as well go to the 12's and get what i really want anyway. Was hoping to compromise....

Regular 10" bars should be OK.  I'm speculating on the points adding more travel.  I've heard guys say they reach with 12" but you don't have enough to get them connected.  The six inch extenders are relatively cheap and easy to hook up.  They already have the connectors so it's plug and play.

finally received an email back from L. A. Choppers. they say that with the 10" bars you can retain all stock cables and wiring. 12" would require replacement.

Agree with J-Carr.  I've put mini-apes on 3 bikes, and only one of them needed new brake/clutch lines (had to re-route them on the other two), but all three needed wiring extensions.  NAMZ and others make plug-n-play extension kits.

I have done 2 sets of bars, on 2 different bikes. 10" yaffe on my flhxse2 and 10" LA choppers twin peaks on an 2001 flhtpi, neither needed any hoses or cables but both needed wire extensions to make the wiring plug back in without having to re-route the harnesses under the fairing. Used NAMZ wire extension kits with zero issues.

I installed these bars as soon as my bike was purchased. Its a '15, but I had Wild 1's 10" 578 on my 2010 SEUC and neither needed longer wires or lines... Here's a pic of the 10" LA Chopper Twin Peaks...

Had to remove my Fairing mounted mirrors and install new bar mounted ones, but thats a good trade-off.

I ran into a guy with those bars in Newmarket, NH at a gas station on Saturday.  Small place, just dumb luck that I saw them.  I went over and asked him if he had to do anything to the wires and he said no.  Just the cables.  So it looks like what I'd heard was wrong based on what this guy told me and the other posts.
